Top Fuel Qualifying Notes, Session #2

Notes from round 2 qualifying in Top Fuel at the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series, 16th annual CARQUEST Auto Parts
NHRA Nationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best
prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:
Left Lane: Gordie Bonin Runs 7.135/115.25, Now #10; No Prior Run
9:20 p.m. Brady Kalivoda was scheduled to run first in this session. However, when he came to a stop
after his burnout, there was oil spraying out of the left side of the engine. Looked like the Old Faithful geyser at
Yellowstone. That clean-up took more than an hour. It took so long, that the sun went down and we're under the
lights.
Bonin is making his first pass of the season here. It wasn't pretty. Smoke coming out of the engine,
and a header fire as he pulled off the track. We're on hold again for oil.
9:38 p.m. Now we get word that the
rest of the session has been cancelled. The curfew is 9 p.m., but we had a half hour extension, and now that has been
used up due to the oil downs. This session will not be re-scheduled. The Top Fuel teams will run tomorrow at 12 noon
and 4 p.m.
