Results of round 1 eliminations in Top Alcohol Dragster at the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series, 16th annual CARQUEST Auto Parts NHRA Nationals:

 Car#-Driver(Opp'nt)-RT-----ET---Speed-----Car#-Driver(Opp'nt)-RT----ET---Speed
3 Steve Federlin 551 Bruce Bowler
E1 No Time ****WINNER**** 0.121 5.529 251.53
 Qualified: #12 5.555 253.47 #5 5.434 254.66
2:34 p.m. Federlin is a no-show, so Bowler's A/FD will move on.

 Car#-Driver(Opp'nt)-RT-----ET---Speed-----Car#-Driver(Opp'nt)-RT----ET---Speed
74 Don Hudson 2 Duane Shields
E1 0.031 5.510 245.99 ****WINNER**** 0.072 5.425 261.62
 Qualified: #11 5.515 249.49 #6 5.453 258.12
Pair of Division 7 B/ADs here. Hudson was about thisclose to pulling off the upset, but then his engine went away at the big end and Shields drove around him. Best run of the weekend for both teams. We'll be down for a clean-up in the left lane. 2:38 p.m.

 Car#-Driver(Opp'nt)-RT-----ET---Speed-----Car#-Driver(Opp'nt)-RT----ET---Speed
73 Chris Demke 65 Mike Cofini
E1 0.107 5.576 255.00 ****WINNER**** 0.030 5.480 261.27
 Qualified: #13 5.567 255.77 #4 5.432 261.42
Cofini swapped lanes after the clean-up. We'll see if it pays off.

Yep. This one was all Cofini, as he goes wire-to-wire. He will have lane choice over Bowler in round two.

 Car#-Driver(Opp'nt)-RT-----ET---Speed-----Car#-Driver(Opp'nt)-RT----ET---Speed
613 Joey Severance 712 Larry Miersch
E1 ****WINNER**** 0.020 5.509 254.33 0.017 5.679 250.00
 Qualified: #9 5.477 257.43 #8 5.476 255.00
Our first B/AD vs. A/FD match-up of the round goes to the B/AD. Both drivers had great lights, but Miersch was not hitting on all eight. Nice run for Severance.

628 Kim Parker 6 Mark Hentges
E1 0.051 5.608 252.05 ****WINNER**** 0.084 5.485 259.01
 Qualified: #14 5.599 250.46 #3 5.420 259.21
Parker just needs to get down the track and hope Hentges makes a mistake.

Kim did her job on the Tree, but couldn't off the hard-charging Hentges. Hentges will race Shields in round two, Shields with lane choice.

6339 Paul Julien 777 Mark Niver
E1 0.071 5.653 244.96 ****WINNER**** 0.111 5.492 252.80
 Qualified: #15 5.638 245.32 #2 5.418 259.06
Here is our second B/AD vs A/FD pair. Julien was ahead to 330, but after that it was all Niver.

 Car#-Driver(Opp'nt)-RT-----ET---Speed-----Car#-Driver(Opp'nt)-RT----ET---Speed
7402 Randy Eakins 7438 Morgan Lucas
E1 0.026 5.626 246.53 ****WINNER**** 0.027 5.428 266.53
 Qualified: #16 5.658 250.27 #1 5.310 269.73
Here's our only all-A/FD match-up. Eakins makes his best run of the weekend, but it's not enough, as Lucas advances to take on Severance. Lucas will have lane choice.

 Car#-Driver(Opp'nt)-RT-----ET---Speed-----Car#-Driver(Opp'nt)-RT----ET---Speed
61 Brandon Johnson 51 Alan Bradshaw
E1 0.048 5.613 252.43 ****WINNER**** 0.090 5.364 237.25
 Qualified: #10 5.478 259.11 #7 5.470 200.35
Division 6 champ versus Division 5 champ, as Johnson tries to defend his home turf. If Bradshaw runs like he ran during the last qualifying session, Johnson has no chance.

Johnson drove through some tire shake, but when the guy you're racing goes 5.36 in the heat, what are you gonna do? Bradshaw gets lane choice over Niver in round two.

That gives us four blown cars and four injected cars in round two.
