Notes from final, round 4 qualifying in Pro Stock at the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series, 16th annual CARQUEST Auto Parts NHRA Nationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:
Left Lane: Bruce Allen Runs 6.904/201.85, Now #26; Best prior run: 10.158/112.38, Was #27

3:57 p.m. Current weather conditions: 81 degrees, 35 percent relative humidity, the barometer 30.11 inches.

The bump is Jim Yates at 6.839. Allen shakes the tires but drives through it and finally gets down the track. he won't qualify though. And it's his birthday today. Bummer.

Left Lane: Ben Watson Runs 6.951/199.58, Now #26; Best prior run: 6.893/200.44, Was #25
Right Lane: George Marnell Runs 6.881/201.25, Now #24; Best prior run: 6.919/200.38, Was #27

Best run of the weekend for Marnell, but he won't get in.

Left Lane: Warren Johnson Runs 6.822/202.94, Now #12; Best prior run: 6.887/202.27, Was #25
Right Lane: Mike Corvo Jr Runs 14.292/58.59, Now #21; Best prior run: 6.859/201.34, Was #20

WJ has never been a DNQ twice in one season. Unless he runs quicker than 6.839, we're about to witness history.

That was a big-time clutch performance for WJ and the team, as he bumps Yates. Just an awesome run in these conditions.

Left Lane: Ron Krisher Runs 6.848/203.00, Now #19; Best prior run: 6.873/202.39, Was #24
Right Lane: Troy Coughlin Runs 17.223/29.24, Now #21; Best prior run: 6.855/201.67, Was #20

V. Gaines is on the bump at 6.828. Best run of the event for Krisher but it's not enough. Troy was out of it before 60 feet.

Left Lane: Nick Drzayich Runs 6.919/200.26, Now #24; Best prior run: 6.865/201.61, Was #24

No help for either driver.

Left Lane: Darrell Alderman Runs 6.856/201.70, Now #22; Best prior run: 6.863/201.52, Was #23
Right Lane: Mark Whisnant Runs 7.972/126.20, Now #18; Best prior run: 6.839/202.30, Was #18

Alderman's best run is not enough.

Left Lane: V. Gaines Runs 12.695/68.32, Now #16; Best prior run: 6.828/203.37, Was #16
Right Lane: Jim Yates Runs 14.229/58.92, Now #17; Best prior run: 6.839/202.85, Was #17

Yates is the last car to run that is not in the show. Gaines is on the bump.

We now know who our top 16 will be, as both drivers shake and shut off. Now we'll see if anyone can touch WJ's 6.822.

Left Lane: Mike Edwards Runs 6.873/202.18, Now #13; Best prior run: 6.823/202.61, Was #13
Right Lane: Terry Adams Runs 6.877/202.15, Now #15; Best prior run: 6.827/202.21, Was #15

Good runs but no improvement.

Left Lane: Greg Stanfield Runs 6.855/202.09, Now #10; Best prior run: 6.818/203.03, Was #10
Right Lane: Larry Morgan Runs 6.849/202.42, Now #14; Best prior run: 6.825/202.94, Was #14

Nice runs in the heat.

Right Lane: Scott Geoffrion Runs 6.876/202.85, Now #11; Best prior run: 6.819/203.09, Was #11

This is the third time Carr will qualify in 2003.

Left Lane: Mark Pawuk Runs 6.858/201.43, Now #8; Best prior run: 6.812/202.24, Was #8
Right Lane: Allen Johnson Runs 6.851/202.09, Now #6; Best prior run: 6.806/202.97, Was #6

What can I say? A pair of good runs but they can't touch WJ.

Left Lane: Dave Connolly Runs 6.859/202.18, Now #7; Best prior run: 6.810/203.34, Was #7
Right Lane: Gene Wilson Runs 6.844/203.00, Now #5; Best prior run: 6.806/203.55, Was #5

Wilson with the second best pass of the round. He will race WJ in round one tomorrow.

Left Lane: Barry Grant Runs 6.846/201.64, Now #3; Best prior run: 6.794/203.16, Was #3
Right Lane: Jeg Coughlin Runs 14.034/60.02, Now #4; Best prior run: 6.804/202.79, Was #4

Good run for Grant. Jeg clicks it early.

Left Lane: Greg Anderson Runs 11.281/78.33, Now #1; Best prior run: 6.754/205.19, Was #1
Right Lane: Kurt Johnson Runs 6.832/202.30, Now #2; Best prior run: 6.784/203.61, Was #2

This will tell us just how good WJ's 6.822 was. Pretty darn good. WJ was the only guy to run quicker than the bump in this session.
