Left Lane: Jim Epler Runs 12.413/78.80, Now #21; Best prior run: 8.501/98.78, Was #21
Right Lane: Al Hofmann Runs 5.091/292.77, Now #18; Best prior run: 5.429/190.23, Was #19
4:42 PM Epler gets about 300 feet out and goes up in smoke. Hofmann makes a decent pass but still doesn't get in.
Left Lane: Jack Wyatt Runs 11.897/75.68, Now #20; Best prior run: 8.221/103.34, Was #20
Right Lane: Vinny Arcadi Runs 5.021/255.46, Now #17; Best prior run: 5.074/302.52, Was #17
Wyatt makes it about 200 feet and goes up in smoke. Arcadi was on a good run until just past the 1000 foot mark, the blower belt then flies off ending his bid to make the field.
Left Lane: John Lawson Runs 11.913/77.13, Now #15; Best prior run: 4.973/306.22, Was #15
Creasy was in the right lane and decided not to make a pass when they were certain to make the field for tomorrow. Lawson gets about 100 feet out and goes up in smoke.
Left Lane: Bob Gilbertson Runs 4.905/311.09, Now #13; Best prior run: 4.961/308.64, Was #14
Right Lane: Johnny Gray Runs 6.508/136.01, Now #14; Best prior run: 4.954/281.25, Was #13
Gray was on a good pass, he was even with Gilbertson at half-track, then we could hear a bang and the engine went silent. Gilbertson improves and moves up a spot to 13th.
Left Lane: Jerry Toliver Runs 5.617/174.31, Now #11; Best prior run: 4.887/311.52, Was #11
Right Lane: Gary Densham Runs 11.787/86.67, Now #12; Best prior run: 4.896/318.35, Was #12
Densham goes up in smoke right after he hits the throttle. Toliver gets to half-track, the tires break loose and he has to give up on the run.
Left Lane: Dean Skuza Runs 4.819/315.90, Now #3; Best prior run: 4.869/314.13, Was #9
Right Lane: Bruce Sarver Runs 4.859/313.26, Now #9; Best prior run: 4.874/312.17, Was #10
Skuza with a great pass, the car drifting left toward the wall, but he hangs on and makes a jump into the third spot. Sarver makes his best pass of the weekend and moves up a spot to ninth.
Left Lane: Frank Pedregon Runs 12.556/79.10, Now #10; Best prior run: 4.867/314.90, Was #10
Right Lane: Ron Capps Runs 4.802/317.57, Now #2; Best prior run: 4.826/311.09, Was #6
Capps makes a great pass, a career best for him, and jumps into the second spot. Pedregon goes up in smoke right off the line and aborts the run.
Left Lane: Tony Pedregon Runs 4.809/320.62, Now #3; Best prior run: 4.856/317.34, Was #8
Right Lane: Scotty Cannon No Time, Now #7; Best prior run: 4.821/315.78, Was #6
Cannon does his burnout, gets ready to stage and has to shut down. Pedregon makes a good run and moves into the third spot.
Left Lane: Del Worsham Runs 4.828/301.00, Now #8; Best prior run: 4.842/319.26, Was #8
Right Lane: Tommy Johnson Jr. Runs 4.978/262.46, Now #6; Best prior run: 4.820/314.35, Was #6
5:32 PM and were back after a cleanup in the right lane. Worsham makes his best pass of the weekend but can't move up. Johnson gets a little out of the groove and has to back off just before he goes through the lights.
Left Lane: John Force Runs 6.198/149.90, Now #2; Best prior run: 4.758/322.69, Was #1
Right Lane: Whit Bazemore Runs 4.753/325.37, Now #1; Best prior run: 4.813/321.42, Was #4
Force gets about 400 feet out, loses traction and pedals, then finally gives up on the run. Bazemore goes right down Broadway and take the pole position while setting the track record.
