DALLAS - Pro Stock Truck Qualifying Notes, Session #1
By Larry Sullivan

ENNIS, Texas - Notes from round 1 qualifying in Pro Stock Truck at the 14th annual O'Reilly Fall Nationals presented by Castrol Syntec listing lane, driver name, elapsed time, top speed, and position in order following run:
Left Lane: Steven Farr Runs 13.165/67.01, Now #2
Right Lane: Dyno Don Nicholson Runs 8.199/164.38, Now #1

12:40 PM We're running a bit behind schedule due to a couple oildowns during the just-completed Super Comp session.

Nicholson hasn't been seen on the tour in quite a while. Problems in both lanes, Farr abandoning the run early-on with shake and Nicholson running through the clutch badly.

Left Lane: Vinny Barone Runs 11.427/79.55, Now #3
Right Lane: George Supinski Runs 10.222/89.78, Now #2

The Ford is still on the pole...two more troubled runs, lots of shake out there this afternoon.

Left Lane: Rick Jones Runs 11.574/77.92, Now #5
Right Lane: Bart Price Runs 9.641/98.94, Now #2

Same story - they launch, swim around a bit, and give up on the run.

Left Lane: Greg Stanfield Runs 15.584/53.00, Now #8
Right Lane: Chip Ippolito Runs 7.749/175.98, Now #1

Sounded like Ippolito also went through the clutch, but not as badly as Nicholson. Stanfield suffered the same fate as most of the rest.

Left Lane: Craig Eaton Runs 7.758/175.81, Now #2
Right Lane: Kim Smith Runs 7.759/175.71, Now #3

A couple of fairly good runs here, both trucks fishtailing slightly.

Left Lane: Roy Simmons Runs 7.925/173.67, Now #5
Right Lane: John Coughlin Runs 7.721/176.60, Now #1

Coughlin takes over the top spot, Simmons fishtailing slightly all the way down the track.

Left Lane: Dale Eaton Runs 7.743/175.74, Now #3
Right Lane: Larry Kopp Runs 7.655/176.29, Now #1

Two good runs here, Kopp with a strong launch.

Left Lane: Jeff Lukovich Runs 7.787/174.08, Now #7
Right Lane: Joe Pigford Runs 7.829/174.68, Now #8

Either the track is coming around or (more likely) the trucks at the tail end of the line have a better handle on how to get down this track, which is notoriously unkind to short-wheelbase race cars (and trucks).

Left Lane: Scott Tidwell Runs 7.695/176.74, Now #2
Right Lane: Taylor Lastor Runs 7.702/175.95, Now #3

Two more good runs, clean and smooth.

Left Lane: Mike Coughlin Runs 7.674/177.20, Now #2
Right Lane: Bo Nickens Runs 7.709/176.05, Now #5

Good runs again - maybe this will be Bo's weekend?

Left Lane: Tim Freeman Runs 7.662/177.40, Now #3
Right Lane: John Lingenfelte Runs 7.647/177.44, Now #1

Freeman is in Ruben Celedon's truck. Two more good runs, bookending Kopp.

Left Lane: Lou Ficco Runs 19.498/36.12, Now #23
Right Lane: Brian Self No Time, Now #24

Ficco launched, the front end way in the air, and then the front wheels banged down and he coasted through. Self staged, then just sat there and was eventually pushed away.

Left Lane: Don Smith Runs 7.720/175.16, Now #9
Right Lane: Brad Jeter Runs 7.601/177.97, Now #1

Very nice pass by Jeter to show everyone else what the track will really deliver.

Left Lane: Scott Perin Runs 7.661/176.50, Now #5
Right Lane: Randy Daniels Runs 7.576/177.93, Now #1

Daniels lays down a 1.072 60-foot time (Jeter had a 1.099) and blisters the track on a fine run.

Left Lane: Larry Seay Runs 7.716/176.29, Now #11
Right Lane: Larry Perkins Runs 7.725/175.60, Now #14

The bump is Ippolito's 7.749 after these two run.

Left Lane: Mark Whisnant Runs 7.720/175.30, Now #13
Right Lane: Steve Johns Runs 7.638/177.90, Now #3

Nice pass by Johns. That bumps Ippolito and Dale Eaton. The bump is now Perkins' 7.725.

Left Lane: Mark Osborne Runs 7.687/177.02, Now #10
Right Lane: Bob Panella Jr Runs 7.606/178.28, Now #3

Two more good runs, bumping Perkins and John Coughlin. Now the bump is Don Smith's 7.720.

Left Lane: David Spitzer Runs 7.668/175.43, Now #10
Right Lane: Jerry Haas Runs 7.659/177.61, Now #7

Two more in, bumping Smith and Mark Whisnant. Now the bump is Seay's 7.716.

Left Lane: Jose Maldonado Runs 7.756/174.55, Now #24
Right Lane: Todd Patterson Runs 7.684/175.54, Now #12

Patterson bumps Seay, putting Bo Nickens on the bubble at 7.709. That's all for now, the trucks will be back around 3:00 PM for their second qualifying session.
