Funny Car Qualifying Notes, Final Session

LAS VEGAS - Notes from final, round 4 qualifying in Funny Car at the NHRA Mission Foods Drag Racing Series, 26th annual MOPAR NHRA Las Vegas Nationals powered by Dodge listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:

Left Lane: Jason Rupert Runs 4.357/232.71, Now #17; Best prior run: 3.998/320.28, Was #17
Right Lane: Cory Lee Runs 6.704/97.77, Now #20; No Prior Run

2:19 p.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 66 degrees, relative humidity 72 percent, barometer 29.90 inches, adjusted altitude 3,342 feet, track temperature 82 degrees.

Rupert gets about 400 feet out and goes up in smoke. He is the first driver to make a sub four second pass and not qualify. Lee has traction problems before he gets 100 feet out and has to give up on the run.

Left Lane: Julie Nataas Runs 5.919/115.00, Now #14; Best prior run: 3.938/322.50, Was #14

Nataas gets about 200 feet out, started spinning the tires, then backed off of the throttle.

Left Lane: Hunter Green Runs 3.976/324.05, Now #13; Best prior run: 3.921/324.75, Was #13
Right Lane: Jeff Arend Runs 4.072/308.35, Now #18; Best prior run: 4.070/303.09, Was #18

Green was moving around near the end of the run but he was able to stay on the throttle and make another decent pass. Arend makes a full pass but he doesn't improve and will not make the field.

Left Lane: Paul Lee Runs 3.913/330.23, Now #10; Best prior run: 3.921/327.74, Was #12
Right Lane: Dave Richards Runs 3.962/330.31, Now #15; Best prior run: 3.979/278.00, Was #16

Lee goes down the groove with a good run and improves enough to move up to the tenth spot. Richards makes his quickest pass of the weekend and gets off of the bump spot.

Left Lane: Cruz Pedregon Runs 3.900/327.74, Now #9; Best prior run: 3.915/316.90, Was #12

Pedregon goes down the roove with his quickest pass of the weekend and he moves up to the ninth spot.

Cruz Pedregon's incremental times: 60ft-0.875 sec., 330ft-2.249, 660ft-3.160/282.78 mph.

Left Lane: Chad Green Runs 4.533/185.31, Now #10; Best prior run: 3.905/319.52, Was #10
Right Lane: Daniel Wilkerson Runs 4.086/271.13, Now #12; Best prior run: 3.914/328.14, Was #12

Green gets about 600 feet out, strikes the tires and has to click it off. Wilkerson loses traction late in the run.

Left Lane: J.R. Todd Runs 3.907/333.25, Now #7; Best prior run: 3.889/336.82, Was #7
Right Lane: Ron Capps Runs 4.303/216.62, Now #8; Best prior run: 3.897/333.25, Was #8

Todd goes down the groove with a good pass but he doesn't improve. Capps gets about 800 feet out and the car noses over, not sure why.

Left Lane: Alexis DeJoria Runs 7.225/89.87, Now #4; Best prior run: 3.874/333.33, Was #4
Right Lane: Spencer Hyde Runs 3.936/324.75, Now #6; Best prior run: 3.887/328.62, Was #6

DeJoria gets about 200 feet out, strikes the tires, then backs off of the throttle. Hyde goes down the groove with a clean, straight pass but he doesn't improve.

Left Lane: Matt Hagan Runs 3.868/332.51, Now #2; Best prior run: 3.871/330.88, Was #3
Right Lane: Austin Prock Runs 3.903/324.51, Now #5; Best prior run: 3.878/312.71, Was #5

Hagan goes down the groove with the quickest pass of the round and he moves up a spot to second. Prock had a cylinder out early but still made a good pass but he doesn't improve.

Matt Hagan's incremental times: 60ft-0.877 sec., 330ft-2.236, 660ft-3.140/287.41 mph.

Austin Prock's incremental times: 60ft-0.873 sec., 330ft-2.237, 660ft-3.153/281.77 mph.

Left Lane: Jack Beckman Runs 3.867/330.39, Now #1; Best prior run: 3.836/335.32, Was #1
Right Lane: Jordan Vandergriff Runs 3.906/330.23, Now #3; Best prior run: 3.868/327.74, Was #3

A good side-by-side, both down the groove with good runs. Beckman makes the quickest pass of the round and will pick up three bonus points. Vandergriff makes a good pass but doens't improve.

Jack Beckman's incremental times: 60ft-0.874 sec., 330ft-2.238, 660ft-3.133/287.05 mph.
Jordan Vandergriff's incremental times: 60ft-0.890 sec., 330ft-2.272, 660ft-3.174/287.05 mph.

Beckman qualifies number one for the fifth time this year.
