As the first round of eliminations started, the temperature is 60-degrees and the humidity has dropped to 51 percent. Cox did not make the call, so Manzo made the run by himself. because there are only 14 cars in the field, Manzo will get a second-round by so he won't run against another car until round three.

Fishers car started to move at the lights so he hit the brakes to keep from crossing the line. Just as he did, the green light came on and Gill was long gone by the time Fisher got underway. Gill won lane choice in round two over Marc White.

Both cars shook the tires off the line but Tigges shook them worse. Lourie took the lead after the 330-foot mark and kept it the rest of the way. Lourie won the race but he lost lance choice in round two to Von Smith. Margin of victory = 0.003 seconds (approximately 13 inches).

   8 Bobby Martin 5.970 240.21 Q 7 Todd Veney 5.864 244.52
