Funny Car Qualifying Notes, Final Session

GAINESVILLE, Fla. - Notes from final, round 2 qualifying in Funny Car at the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series, 51st annual Amalie Motor Oil NHRA Gatornationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:
Right Lane: Dave Richards Runs 7.143/88.68, Now #14; Best prior run: 6.212/106.64, Was #14

Richards rattled the tires and then was up in smoke before he clicked it off.

Left Lane: Blake Alexander Runs 4.097/301.94, Now #6; Best prior run: 4.310/218.19, Was #10
Right Lane: Alexis DeJoria Runs 4.088/269.67, Now #5; Best prior run: 4.974/152.43, Was #13

Alexander was on a good looking pass until in the lights when the car started to drift out of the groove over by the wall. He goes the the number six spot. Blake Alexander's incremental times: 60ft-0.893 sec., 330ft-2.319, 660ft-3.302/262.08 mph.

DeJoria was mixing up cylinder on the top end, but she goes to the number five spot. Alexis DeJoria's incremental times: 60ft-0.888 sec., 330ft-2.276, 660ft-3.247/265.01 mph.

Left Lane: Cruz Pedregon Runs 10.832/73.32, Now #11; Best prior run: 4.174/245.99, Was #11
Right Lane: Jim Campbell Runs 6.861/91.79, Now #12; Best prior run: 4.424/233.80, Was #12

Pedregon is up in smoke right at the hit and clicks it off.

Campbell started to shake by 330 and clicked it off.

Left Lane: Tommy Johnson Jr. Runs 4.969/152.35, Now #10; Best prior run: 4.129/249.44, Was #10
Right Lane: Paul Lee Runs 10.247/75.65, Now #8; Best prior run: 4.108/291.07, Was #8

Johnson started to smoke the tires around 400 feet and clicked it off.

Lee was up in smoke right at the hit and clicked it off.

Left Lane: Jack Beckman Runs 4.340/211.53, Now #9; Best prior run: 4.123/254.18, Was #9
Right Lane: J.R. Todd Runs 4.336/216.79, Now #7; Best prior run: 4.107/308.64, Was #7

These two started to lose traction at about the same time around the 1/8th mile mark.

Left Lane: Ron Capps Runs 7.827/85.89, Now #4; Best prior run: 4.025/309.27, Was #4
Right Lane: Bob Tasca III Runs 4.060/277.60, Now #3; Best prior run: 4.020/317.57, Was #3

Capps is hazing the tires around 150 feet.

Tasca started to haze the tires right in the light and he clicked it off. He has the quickest pass of the session. Bob Tasca III's incremental times: 60ft-0.887 sec., 330ft-2.286, 660ft-3.238/270.27 mph.

Left Lane: Tim Wilkerson Runs 4.264/219.83, Now #2; Best prior run: 4.003/318.47, Was #1
Right Lane: Matt Hagan Runs 3.975/321.35, Now #1; Best prior run: 4.006/315.64, Was #2

Wilkerson was on a good pass until just past half track when he started to haze the tires and clicked it off.

Hagan launched hard and kept it hooked up to go to the number one spot. Matt Hagan's incremental times: 60ft-0.885 sec., 330ft-2.266, 660ft-3.214/272.56 mph. Hagan will have a bye tomorrow. This is his 39th number one qualifying position, third this season and third in Gainesville.
