Top Fuel Qualifying Notes, Session #1

GAINESVILLE, Fla. - Notes from round 1 qualifying in Top Fuel at the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series, 51st annual Amalie Motor Oil NHRA Gatornationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time, top speed, and position in order following run:
Right Lane: Arthur Allen Runs 7.650/77.00, Now #1

Allen is making the move to Top Fuel from Alcohol dragster.

Allen's engine let go and went silent before half track.

Left Lane: Cameron Ferre Runs 6.734/100.92, Now #2
Right Lane: Joe Morrison Runs 4.077/294.63, Now #1

Ferre was up in smoke right off the starting line and he clicked it off.

Morrison was on a good looking pass until in the lights where it dropped a cylinder or two. He still makes his quickest and fastest pass. Joe Morrison's incremental times: 60ft-0.899 sec., 330ft-2.293, 660ft-3.263/261.88 mph.

Left Lane: Todd Paton Runs 7.033/87.95, Now #4
Right Lane: Tony Schumacher Runs 5.391/127.68, Now #2

Patton rattled the tires early and clicked it off.

Schumacher started to haze the tires right off the starting line and clicked it off.

Left Lane: Doug Foley Runs 5.716/103.66, Now #4
Right Lane: Clay Millican Runs 3.842/316.90, Now #1

Foley is up in smoke by 330 feet and then shook the chute out.

Millican launched hard and kept it hooked up to go to the number one spot. Clay Millican's incremental times: 60ft-0.859 sec., 330ft-2.173, 660ft-3.084/279.79 mph.

Left Lane: Terry McMillen Runs 4.724/162.96, Now #4
Right Lane: Antron Brown Runs 4.163/221.52, Now #3

McMillen started to overpower the track and clicked it off.

Brown started to lose traction and clicked it off.

Left Lane: Shawn Langdon Runs 3.880/315.93, Now #3
Right Lane: Billy Torrence Runs 3.832/318.02, Now #1

This was a great side-by-side drag race.

Langdon was straight down the groove to the number three spot. Shawn Langdon's incremental times: 60ft-0.841 sec., 330ft-2.182, 660ft-3.114/275.34 mph.

Torrence launched hard and kept it hooked up and hitting on all eight to go to the number one spot. Billy Torrence's incremental times: 60ft-0.847 sec., 330ft-2.158, 660ft-3.074/278.06 mph.

Left Lane: Justin Ashley Runs 4.818/151.99, Now #8
Right Lane: Steve Torrence Runs 3.867/318.54, Now #3

Ashley is up in smoke by 330 feet and clicked it off.

Torrence is driving a Don Garlits tribute car...he had panned to run in March. Torrence was on a great looking pass until on the top end when the car pitched the blower belt. Steve Torrence's incremental times: 60ft-0.852 sec., 330ft-2.189, 660ft-3.109/277.83 mph.

Left Lane: Leah Pruett Runs 4.347/187.63, Now #7
Right Lane: Doug Kalitta Runs 4.452/179.37, Now #8

Pruett starts to haze the tires just past half track.

Kalitta starts to haze the tires and clicks it off.
