Funny Car Qualifying Notes, Final Session
By David Gerard

POMONA, Calif. - Notes from final, round 4 qualifying in Funny Car at the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series, 60th annual Lucas Oil NHRA Winternationals presented by listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:
Left Lane: Jim Campbell Runs 4.672/264.55, Now #17; Best prior run: 4.930/173.76, Was #17
Right Lane: Alex Miladinovich Runs 4.632/214.93, Now #16; Best prior run: 4.554/246.71, Was #16

4:37 p.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 70 degrees, relative humidity 39 percent, barometer 28.78 inches, adjusted altitude 2,551 feet, track temperature 83 degrees.

Matt Hagan is number one at 3.867 and Alex Miladinovich is on the bump spot at 4.554.

Campbell's problems continue, as tire shake and spin right before the 60 foot lights force him to do a quick pedal slap. He runs it on down the track, but can't run better than Miladinovich's earlier 4.554.

Miladinovich will make the field in a shut off run.

Alex Miladinovich's incremental times: 60ft-0.968 sec., 330ft-2.509, 660ft-3.595/235.35 mph.

Left Lane: Cruz Pedregon Runs 4.038/320.66, Now #13; Best prior run: 4.326/214.01, Was #13
Right Lane: Terry Haddock Runs 4.106/301.07, Now #14; Best prior run: 4.339/223.25, Was #14

Both driver's finally show representative power and improve with full passes.

They will stay in their current spots, but much improved performance for tomorrow's eliminations.

Cruz Pedregon's incremental times: 60ft-0.896 sec., 330ft-2.309, 660ft-3.272/270.10 mph.
Terry Haddock's incremental times: 60ft-0.913 sec., 330ft-2.330, 660ft-3.299/261.47 mph.

Left Lane: Bob Bode Runs 4.376/225.94, Now #12; Best prior run: 3.984/320.89, Was #12
Right Lane: Bob Tasca III Runs 3.959/325.14, Now #10; Best prior run: 3.940/324.28, Was #10

Clean pass for Tasca, just a tad off his best ET and a little faster to stay #10.

Bode's Mustang was a little lazy off the line and then drops a hole or two and he has to click it early.

Bob Tasca III's incremental times: 60ft-0.871 sec., 330ft-2.268, 660ft-3.206/277.43 mph.

Left Lane: Alexis DeJoria Runs 3.950/321.19, Now #11; Best prior run: 3.983/325.37, Was #11
Right Lane: Tim Wilkerson Runs 4.258/216.90, Now #8; Best prior run: 3.918/322.96, Was #8

Wilkerson gets away first and powers the tires loose around 100 feet out. The Mustang starts to turn sideways and he wisely clicks it early.

Strong pass for DeJoria with her best ET of the weekend to stay #11.

Alexis DeJoria's incremental times: 60ft-0.873 sec., 330ft-2.254, 660ft-3.192/275.39 mph.

Left Lane: John Force Runs 3.889/322.04, Now #4; Best prior run: 3.933/320.43, Was #9
Right Lane: J.R. Todd Runs 6.888/91.21, Now #8; Best prior run: 3.914/327.11, Was #7

Force gets the run he was expecting and runs into the eighties and five spots up the ladder into the top four. The Camaro drifts very close to the guard rail way down in the shutoff, but keeps the shiny on it.

Todd's Camry was with Force until the sixty foot lights and then slowed.

John Force's incremental times: 60ft-0.857 sec., 330ft-2.229, 660ft-3.142/283.25 mph.

Left Lane: Ron Capps Runs 6.905/91.93, Now #7; Best prior run: 3.911/328.38, Was #7
Right Lane: Paul Lee Runs 7.446/86.94, Now #6; Best prior run: 3.910/332.92, Was #6

They leave together. They shake together. They lift together.

Left Lane: Tommy Johnson Jr. Runs 3.881/321.50, Now #4; Best prior run: 3.905/318.02, Was #5
Right Lane: Robert Hight Runs 3.862/331.45, Now #1; Best prior run: 3.885/330.31, Was #3

A great ol' drag race!

They leave close together and run close together to the finish line. They both improve their ET's and Hight runs his fastest speed.

Hight moves into the new top spot and TJ moves up one to #4.

Tommy Johnson Jr.'s incremental times: 60ft-0.867 sec., 330ft-2.227, 660ft-3.132/284.51 mph.
Robert Hight's incremental times: 60ft-0.868 sec., 330ft-2.228, 660ft-3.126/285.29 mph.

Left Lane: Jack Beckman Runs 3.856/328.86, Now #2; Best prior run: 3.868/326.95, Was #3
Right Lane: Matt Hagan Runs 3.841/333.25, Now #1; Best prior run: 3.867/331.20, Was #2

Team DSR saves the best to last with both drivers making their best ET's and speeds of the weekend to bounce back into the top two spots with style.

They leave together and run together to wrap up qualifying for the weekend.

Jack Beckman's incremental times: 60ft-0.863 sec., 330ft-2.215, 660ft-3.122/287.78 mph.
Matt Hagan's incremental times: 60ft-0.861 sec., 330ft-2.203, 660ft-3.108/283.43 mph.

5:02 p.m. Alex Miladinovich is on the bump spot at 4.554.
