ENNIS, Texas - Results of round 1 eliminations in Top Fuel at the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series, 34th annual AAA Texas NHRA FallNationals:

Millican is 2 - 1 against Vandergriff in prior events.

Millican started to drop cylinders early and pushed out a head gasket with a quick fireball around 330 feet.

Mike Salinas starts the day in fifth place in the points. This is the 15th time this year he has started from the top half of the field. This is the first race for Lee Callaway in Top Fuel. He competed in 52 races in the alcohol classes.

Callaway with the starting line advantage and runs his quickest pass of the weekend for the win. He will give up lane choice to Vandergriff in the next round.

Salinas dropped a cylinder right at the hit and never got it to pick up.

Force with the starting line advantage and never trailed for the win. She started to drift out of the groove and over by the centerline on the top end.

Ferre with a good clean pass in the losing effort.

Steve Torrence is the defending event champion. In the 32 year history of this race only two drivers (Schumacher & McClenathan) have ever won it in back-to-back years. Shawn Reed is making his 30th start. In his last 2 starts he has lost to members of the Torrence family, Steve in the semi-finals at Seattle and Billy in the second round at Indy.

Torrence is 7 - 1 against Reed in prior events.

Torrence with the slight starting line advantage, but Reed had the lead by 330 feet and never trailed from there on for the win. Reed with his quickest pass of the weekend for the win in a close one. Shawn Reed's MOV: 0.0034 seconds (approximately 19 inches). He will have lane choice Billy Torrence in the next round.
