Top Alcohol Funny Car Round 1 Eliminations

MOHNTON, Pa. - Results of round 1 eliminations in Top Alcohol Funny Car at the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series, 35th annual Mopar Express Lane NHRA Nationals presented by Pennzoil:

6:39 p.m. - Weather conditions: air temperature 74 degrees, relative humidity 75 percent, barometer 29.58 inches, adjusted altitude 2,231 feet, track temperature 81 degrees.

This is the seventh time in his career that Hough has started from the number one position, and the third time this year. Hough had a bye into the next round. He launched and took it to about 330 feet before he clicked the car off.

Westerfield is 1 - 0 against Bogolo in prior events. Westerfield was first off the starting line and pulled ahead on the track to take the win.

This is the first time Headley and Bellemeur have faced each other in eliminations. Headley did a weak burnout. When he backed up, his crew spent a long time adjusting something through the blower cutout in the body. His car launched, bounced a lot and was slow on the track before he shut it down at mid-track. Bellemeur went down the groove to record his quickest run of the weekend so far and take the win.

This is the first time Marshall and Gawlick have faced each other in eliminations. Gawlick was quicker off the starting line but Marshall made up the difference and took the lead by the time they reached 330 feet. Marshall took the win and will race Westerfield in the next round.

Cox Jr. is 1 - 0 against Tigges in prior events. Cox was first out of the gate and pulled away on the track. He got the win and will race Bellemeur next time around. The winner of that race gets a bye in the semis.

Burkart is 2 - 1 against Pomponio in prior events. These two came off the line almost together. Burkart had some tire shake and moved around a lot in his lane. He got it straightened out but by that time Pomponio was already well ahead and took the win. Pomponio will race Hough in the second round tomorrow.
