Top Fuel Round 1 Eliminations

BRAINERD, Minn. - Results of round 1 eliminations in Top Fuel at the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series, 38th annual Lucas Oil NHRA Nationals:

  374 Austin Prock                           10 Scott Palmer

Weather conditions: air temperature 67 degrees, relative humidity 57 percent, barometer 28.47 inches, adjusted altitude 2,818 feet, track temperature 94 degrees.

This is the first time Prock and Palmer have faced each other in eliminations.

Prock is coming off his first National event win at the last race in Seattle.

Palmer is battling to get into the top 10, he is seven points behind McMillen.

Prock is out of the gate first and then started to haze the tires around 300 feet and pedaled it, only to lose traction again, he pedaled it a couple more times to get to the finish line first.

Palmer was up in smoke right at the hit...

Richie Crampton won this race in 2015.

Millican is 5 - 2 against Crampton in prior events.

Millican launched hard and kept it hooked up to run low E.T. of the event for the win. Clay Millican's incremental times: 60ft-0.838 sec., 330ft-2.102, 660ft-2.969/293.79 mph.

Crampton started to haze the tires around 330 feet and clicked it off.

Brittany Force won here in 2016. She is 11 - 3 in round 1 after qualifying No. 1 and the No. 1 qualifier in Top Fuel is 32 - 5 in round 1 at this event.

Chris Karamesines has lost his last five meeting with Brittany and they have all been in round 1.

Force is out of the gate first and never trailed for the win. She runs a big top end speed, the fastest of the event for the win. She will have lane choice over her teammate Prock in the next round.

Karamesines engine let go around half track with a quick fireball to end his weekend.

This is the 22nd consecutive year that Luigi Novelli has been part of the Brainerd race.

Salinas is 1 - 0 against Novelli in prior events.

Salinas with the starting line advantage and never trailed for the win. He runs his quickest pass of the weekend for the win. He runs second quickest pass of race day, but will give up lane choice to Millican, who has quickest pass of the event in the next round.

Novelli dropped a cylinder right at the hit and never got it to clean up.

Pritchett with the starting line advantage and never trailed for the win. She runs her quickest pass of the weekend for the win.

Wurtzel lost traction early and the car was sideways before he clicked it off.

The No. 2 qualifier in Top Fuel is 30 - 7 in round 1 in Brainerd and Steve Torrence is 29 - 2 in the first round when starting from the No. 2 spot. This is the 16th Top Fuel start for Cameron Ferre.

Torrence is 1 - 0 against Ferre in prior events.

Ferre left before the tree was activated.

Torrence with the win, he dropped a cylinder around half track.

Billy Torrence is the defending event champion. In the 37 year history of this race only Joe Amato and Brandon Bernstein have won it in back-to-back years in Top Fuel. Antron Brown is one of two professional drivers to have won in Brainerd in more than one class (K. Bernstein). Antron won Top Fuel in 2011 and Pro Stock Motorcycle in 2000, 2001, 2003 and 2006. He has been the runner-up here in each of the last three years.

Brown with a few ticks on the tree, but Torrence had the lead by the time they went past the Christmas tree and never trailed from there on for the win. He runs low E.T. of the event for the win. Billy Torrence's incremental times: 60ft-0.826 sec., 330ft-2.096, 660ft-2.958/295.40 mph. He will have lane choice over Pritchett in the next round.

Brown was up in smoke by half track and clicked it off.

    8 Doug Kalitta                           21 Terry McMillen

Surprisingly, Doug Kalitta is the only active Top Fuel driver to have won more than once in Brainerd (2003 and 2005). He is 18 - 3 in round 1 in Brainerd.

Kalitta is 17 - 3 against McMillen in prior events.

Kalitta with a great light and never trailed for the win. He runs his quickest pass of the weekend for the win. He will have lane choice over Steve Torrence in the next round.

McMillen was hazing his tires early and clicked it off.
