POMONA, Calif. - Results of round 1 eliminations in Pro Stock at the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series, 59th annual Lucas Oil NHRA Winternationals presented by ProtectTheHarvest.com:

Weather conditions: air temperature 53 degrees, relative humidity 50 percent, barometer 29.04 inches, adjusted altitude 1,053 feet, track temperature 75 degrees.

Alex Laughlin is making his 66th start in Pro Stock. Jeg Coughlin won the Winternationals in 1999 and 2000 and has been runner-up four times. Overall he is 27 - 15 at this race.

Laughlin and Coughlin have each won 5 times against the other in prior events.

Coughlin with the starting line advantage, but had serious problems and coasted on down the track. Laughlin was straight down the groove for the win with his quickest and fastest pass of the weekend.

Greg Anderson starts the day with 799 round wins. Only three pro drivers (Force, W. Johnson and Tony Schumacher) have won 800 or more rounds in their career. Greg's 39 round wins at the Winternationals are the most for any active Pro Stock driver as are his six wins. Chris McGaha is making his 134th start and his seventh at the Winternationals.

Anderson is 15 - 6 against McGaha in prior events.

McGaha with the starting line advantage and then is real loose, he pedals it and is loose again. He stays with it and gets the win.

Anderson with problems right at the hit and coasted on down the track.

This is Jason Line's 901st round and that is 15th most among pro drivers. His 593 round wins are fifth best in the Pro Stock class. He won this race five times and was runner-up twice including last year. Fernando Cuadra is making his first start at the Winternationals.

This is the first time Line and Cuadra have faced each other in eliminations.

Cuadra with the starting line advantage, but has severe tire shake right the hit and clicks it off, he coast on down the track.

Line is straight down the groove with his quickest pass of the weekend and the win. He makes the quickest pass of race day.

This is the first time Kramer and Graham have faced each other in eliminations.

Kramer with the starting line advantage, but then didn't move, it finally did move, but it was too late by then.

Graham is straight down the groove for the win. He runs his career quickest and fastest pass for the win. This is Graham's first round win. Graham will give up lane choice to Line in the round.

This is the second time that Rodger Brogdon has qualified No. 1. The top qualifier has won this race 16 times in 49 years. Val Smeland is making his 25th start. The 16th qualifier in Pro Stock at this event has won in round one four times since the turn of the century.

This is the first time Brogdon and Smeland have faced each other in eliminations.

Brogdon rolled the beam and left before the tree was activated to give Smeland the win. Smeland gets his second career round win. Smeland runs his career quickest and fastest pass for the win. Smeland will give up lane choice to Laughlin in the next round.
