Top Alcohol Dragster Qualifying Notes, Session #1

POMONA, Calif. - Notes from round 1 qualifying in Top Alcohol Dragster at the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series, 54th annual Auto Club NHRA Finals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time, top speed, and position in order following run:
Left Lane: Don St. Arnaud Runs 5.806/248.20, Now #2
Right Lane: Randy Eakins Runs 5.404/262.90, Now #1

Weather conditions: air temperature 78 degrees, relative humidity 30 percent, barometer 28.82 inches, adjusted altitude 2,986 feet, track temperature 83 degrees.

St. Arnaud slowed on the top end.

Eakins was straight down the groove with a good clean pass. Randy Eakins' incremental times: 60ft-0.959 sec., 330ft-2.467, 660ft-3.600/220.91 mph, 1,000ft-4.565.

Left Lane: Johnny Ahten Runs 15.181/67.36, Now #4
Right Lane: Derik Milanesio Runs 5.374/270.27, Now #1

Ahten shook early and shut off.

Milanesio was straight down the groove with a good looking pass. Derik Milanesio's incremental times: 60ft-0.956 sec., 330ft-2.450, 660ft-3.589/220.26 mph, 1,000ft-4.550.

Left Lane: Krista Baldwin Runs 5.729/253.04, Now #3
Right Lane: Fred Hanssen Runs 15.344/50.54, Now #6

Baldwin shook and she pedaled it, but never got it to hook up.

Hanssen lost traction right at the hit.

Left Lane: Casey Grisel Runs 5.466/258.96, Now #4
Right Lane: Dan Mercier Runs 5.333/274.83, Now #1

Grisel was straight down groove. Casey Grisel's incremental times: 60ft-0.974 sec., 330ft-2.502, 660ft-3.645/219.61 mph, 1,000ft-4.615.

Mercier with a great pass to go to the number one spot. Dan Mercier's incremental times: 60ft-0.934 sec., 330ft-2.434, 660ft-3.574/222.29 mph, 1,000ft-4.521.

Left Lane: Shane Conway Runs 10.811/81.60, Now #8
Right Lane: Tiffany Januik Runs 5.779/230.53, Now #6

Conway shook and pedaled it, but couldn't get it to hook up and clicked it off.

Januik started to lose traction and clicked it off.

Left Lane: Garrett Bateman Runs 5.266/277.37, Now #1
Right Lane: Kim Parker Runs 5.542/263.72, Now #6

Bateman launched hard and kept it hitting on all eight to go to the number one spot. Garrett Bateman's incremental times: 60ft-0.934 sec., 330ft-2.406, 660ft-3.521/225.48 mph, 1,000ft-4.460.

Parker with a clean pass to get into the top half of the show. Kim Parker's incremental times: 60ft-1.028 sec., 330ft-2.569, 660ft-3.718/217.46 mph, 1,000ft-4.697.

Left Lane: Julie Nataas Runs 5.232/279.79, Now #1
Right Lane: James Stevens Runs 8.412/101.53, Now #11

Nataas launched hard and kept it hooked up to go to the number one spot. Julie Nataas' incremental times: 60ft-0.946 sec., 330ft-2.403, 660ft-3.506/227.54 mph, 1,000ft-4.434.

Stevens lost traction early and clicked it off.

Left Lane: Duane Shields Runs 5.327/273.94, Now #3
Right Lane: Jackie Fricke Runs 12.728/70.98, Now #14

Shields was straight down the groove with a good clean pass to go to the number three spot. Duane Shields' incremental times: 60ft-0.948 sec., 330ft-2.463, 660ft-3.569/225.86 mph, 1,000ft-4.512.

Fricke lost traction right at the hit and clicked it off.

Left Lane: Shawn Cowie Runs 5.226/281.36, Now #2
Right Lane: Joey Severance Runs 5.204/277.83, Now #1

This was a great side-by-side drag race to wrap up round one of Top Alcohol Dragster qualifying.

Cowie kept it hitting on all eight to go to the number two spot. Shawn Cowie's incremental times: 60ft-0.906 sec., 330ft-2.368, 660ft-3.484/223.80 mph, 1,000ft-4.427.

Severance launched hard and kept it hooked up to go to the number one spot. Joey Severance's incremental times: 60ft-0.885 sec., 330ft-2.329, 660ft-3.445/222.66 mph, 1,000ft-4.396.
