Top Fuel Qualifying Notes, Session #2

MOHNTON, Pa. - Notes from round 2 qualifying in Top Fuel at the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series, 34th annual Dodge NHRA Nationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:
Left Lane: Jim Maroney Runs 8.760/64.16, Now #15; No Prior Run
Right Lane: Dan Mercier Runs 8.728/79.98, Now #14; No Prior Run

Weather conditions: air temperature 78 degrees, relative humidity 75 percent, barometer 29.59 inches, adjusted altitude 2,583 feet, track temperature 89 degrees.

Both drivers making their first attempts at the track.

Maroney loses traction right at the hit and clicks it off.

Mercier drops cylinders and throws the blower belt off right at the hit.

Left Lane: Terry McMillen Runs 3.809/324.12, Now #7; Best prior run: 6.398/106.89, Was #12

McMillen is straight down the groove with a good clean pass to move into the top half of the field. Terry McMillen's incremental times: 60ft-0.851 sec., 330ft-2.152, 660ft-3.058/281.42 mph.

Left Lane: Dom Lagana Runs 3.798/308.85, Now #7; Best prior run: 4.062/222.95, Was #11
Right Lane: Leah Pritchett Runs 3.758/312.50, Now #2; Best prior run: 6.696/100.11, Was #13

This was a good side-by-side drag race.

Lagana kept it hooked up to go to the number seven spot. Dom Lagana's incremental times: 60ft-0.842 sec., 330ft-2.146, 660ft-3.028/286.19 mph.

Pritchett had the header flames shooting high over the rear wing all the way down the track to go to the number two spot. Leah Pritchett's incremental times: 60ft-0.834 sec., 330ft-2.081, 660ft-3.010/287.41 mph.

Left Lane: Doug Kalitta Runs 4.162/218.41, Now #12; Best prior run: 3.863/322.42, Was #12

Kalitta was on a good pass and then around half track the car went silent.

Left Lane: Tony Schumacher Runs 3.776/329.67, Now #3; Best prior run: 3.806/324.98, Was #8
Right Lane: Scott Palmer Runs 3.822/324.51, Now #11; Best prior run: 3.817/327.27, Was #11

Schumacher launched hard and kept it hooked up to go to the number three spot. Tony Schumacher's incremental times: 60ft-0.841 sec., 330ft-2.142, 660ft-3.036/284.93 mph.

Palmer with another good pass, but will not improve and stays in the number 11 spot. Scott Palmer's incremental times: 60ft-0.855 sec., 330ft-2.180, 660ft-3.075/284.99 mph.

Left Lane: Richie Crampton Runs 7.743/89.30, Now #7; Best prior run: 3.791/316.30, Was #7

Crampton was paired up with Force, but the tree didn't fire. They have fixed the tree and Force decided to go to the end of the line while Crampton fueled it. He lost traction right at the hit and clicked it off.

Left Lane: Steve Torrence Runs 4.360/180.77, Now #6; Best prior run: 3.785/327.74, Was #6
Right Lane: Antron Brown Runs 7.010/98.92, Now #5; Best prior run: 3.779/325.37, Was #5

Torrence starts to smoke the tires just past half track and clicks it off.

Brown is up in smoke early and lifts.

Left Lane: Mike Salinas Runs 3.764/328.46, Now #3; Best prior run: 3.778/326.40, Was #4
Right Lane: Clay Millican Runs 3.723/330.72, Now #1; Best prior run: 3.747/328.30, Was #1

Salinas is over by the wall and reels it back in...he moves up the ladder one spot with a nice pass. Mike Salinas' incremental times: 60ft-0.837 sec., 330ft-2.139, 660ft-3.026/286.44 mph.

Millican launched hard and had the header flames shooting high over the rear wing all the way down the track to improve on his number one qualifying time. Clay Millican's incremental times: 60ft-0.832 sec., 330ft-2.119, 660ft-2.994/291.32 mph.

Right Lane: Brittany Force Runs 13.400/46.00, Now #10; Best prior run: 3.812/324.51, Was #10

Force is back to make her run...she is up in smoke right at the hit and clicks it off
