Sonoma Raceway to Host NHRA Division 7 Drag Race presented by Korbel

SONOMA, Calif. -

Sonoma Raceway will host the NHRA Division 7 Drag Race presented by Korbel on July 20-22. The event is one of 44 scheduled across the country where drivers in the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series earn points leading to divisional and national championships as well as a chance at a share of the year-end purse of more than $519,000. Categories include Comp Eliminator, Super Stock, Stock Eliminator, Super Comp, Super Gas and Super Street. The Pacific Division Top Sportsman Series, Top Dragster Series and the NHRA Sportsman Motorcycle Series will also run in conjunction with the event.

The event will be highlighted Saturday night under the lights with "The Beast" vs "The Warhawk" Jet Cars, five-second door slammers of the Xtreme Pro Mods West Series, and Boddie's 1/8th Mile Racing Association "No Time" Classes.

This year's event will be a new 2 Day format with a test and tune on Friday at 9:30 a.m., time trials and Qualifying will start Saturday at 8:30 a.m. and eliminations for all classes will be on Sunday starting at 8:30 a.m.

Tickets for Sonoma Raceway are $5 Friday, $20 Saturday and $20 Sunday. Children 12 and under are admitted free with a paid adult.

WHAT: The NHRA Division 7 Drag Races, presented by Korbel, kick off back-to-back weekends of drag racing in the Sonoma Valley featuring nine racing classes from the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series as well as the Xtreme Pro Mods West Series and Boddie's 1/8th Mile Racing Association "No Time" classes. Following the divisional event, the wine country facility will also host the Toyota NHRA Sonoma Nationals, July 27-29.

WHEN: July 20-22. Gates open at 8 a.m. each day.

TRACK: Quarter-mile drag strip

CATEGORIES: Categories include Comp Eliminator, Stock Eliminator, Super Street, Super Comp, Super Stock, Super Gas, Top Dragster, Top Sportsman and Motorcycle. The five-second door slammers of the Xtreme Pro Mods West Series join the weekend for the sixth consecutive year. For the second year, Team Boddie Presents Outlaw 1/8 Racing Association will hit the track in Sonoma for its fifth installment in the 2018 point series with its Big Tire/Small Tire shootout.

NOTABLE: Division 7 comprises the western United States (Arizona, California, Hawaii, Nevada and Utah), but drag racers from all over the country will venture to Sonoma for a chance to compete on the world-class drag strip, which features a 660-foot concrete launch pad. That, combined with the fact that the raceway is 15 feet above sea level, makes the drag strip one of the fastest in the country.

SATURDAY NIGHT UNDER THE LIGHTS: Racing will extend into the evening on Saturday night, as "The Beast" and "The Warhawk" jet cars hit the track at 7:15 p.m. and 9:15 p.m. These rocket-powered machines will reach speeds exceeding 300 mph as they fire down the drag strip for the ultimate high-horsepower entertainment. The evening will also feature elimination rounds for the Pro Mods and Team Boddie.

Friday, July 20: Test and tune and qualifying - Boddie Small Tire, Boddie Big Tire and Pro Mods - 1 p.m. and 5 p.m.
Saturday, July 21: Qualifying and eliminations - Boddie Small Tire, Boddie Big Tire and Pro Mods - Round 1: 3 p.m., Round 2: 5 p.m., Round 3: 7 p.m., Finals: 9 p.m. Jets Cars: 7:15 p.m. and 9:15 p.m.
Sunday, July 22: Eliminations continue, 8:30 a.m.
