Pro Stock Round 1 Eliminations

CHANDLER, Ariz. - Results of round 1 eliminations in Pro Stock at the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series, 34th annual NHRA Arizona Nationals:

Weather conditions: air temperature 61 degrees, relative humidity 23 percent, barometer 28.96 inches, adjusted altitude 1,564 feet, track temperature 88 degrees.

Drew Skillman was runner-up here last year. This is the first time he has started from the bottom half of the field since the Bristol race last year...This is the 67th start for Matt Hartford.

Skillman is 1 - 0 against Hartford in prior events.

Skillman with the starting line advantage and makes his quickest pass of the weekend for the win.

Hartford with severe tire shake right at the hit and pushed in the clutch.

Gray is 1 - 0 against McGaha in prior events.

McGaha with a great light and was straight down the groove for the win.

Gray was real loose right at the hit, but reeled it in, but couldn't chase McGaha down.

Jeg Coughlin won here in 2000 & 2009...This is a rare occurrence when you have two drivers facing each other who have both won national championships in the pro and sportsman classes.

Butner is 8 - 2 against Coughlin in prior events.

Coughlin with a great light and the power to hold on for the hole shot win. Jeg Coughlin's MOV: 0.0224 seconds (approximately 7 feet).

Jason Line has a pair of wins here….Vincent Nobile was the 2011 winner here. Vincent starts the day with 199 round wins.

Nobile pulled into the waterbox, but then the car died before the burnout. The team could not get it to fire back up, so Line will get a single.

Line was straight down the groove on the single.

This is the first time that Deric Kramer has qualified number one and he becomes the 64th driver in Pro Stock history to qualify number one. His previous best starting spot was number five. The number one qualifier in Pro Stock has only won this race twice in the last 25 years...This is the 42nd start for Alan Prusiensky. In 32 years at this event the #16 qualifier in Pro Stock has won the first round five times.

This is the first time Prusiensky and Kramer have faced each other in eliminations.

Kramer with the starting line advantage and never trailed for the win. He slowed on the top end, but still gets the win. Kramer will give up lane choice to Skillman in round two.

Prusiensky's car made a quick move toward the centerline and pushed the clutch in.

This is the first time Smeland and Laughlin have faced each other in eliminations.

Laughlin with the starting line advantage and the power to hold on for the hole shot win.

Smeland was out of the groove and reeled it back in the groove, but couldn't chase him down.

Laughlin will give up lane choice to Coughlin in the next round.

Erica Enders won here in 2013. This (number two) starting spot is the best for Erica since Denver last year...This is just the fourth pro start for Steve Graham.

Graham with a great light and then made a quick move toward the wall and clicks it off.

Enders is straight down the groove for the win. She will give up lane choice to McGaha in the next round.

Greg Anderson is one of two Pro Stock drivers who have won here twice. He is also the defending event champion...Kenny Delco's first start in Phoenix came in 1987.

Anderson is 6 - 1 against Delco in prior events.

Anderson with the starting line advantage and was straight down the groove for the win. He matched Line's E.T., but will get lane choice based on his faster speed in the next round.
