Funny Car Qualifying Notes, Session #2

MOHNTON, Pa. - Notes from round 2 qualifying in Funny Car at the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series, 33rd annual Dodge NHRA Nationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:
Left Lane: Courtney Force Runs 3.935/321.88, Now #5; Best prior run: 4.552/184.75, Was #10

5:00 p.m. - Weather conditions: air temperature 85 degrees, relative humidity 33 percent, barometer 29.41 inches, adjusted altitude 2,874 feet, track temperature 97 degrees.

Force's run looked okay but her car was trailing smoke just after the finish line.

Left Lane: Jonnie Lindberg Runs 5.109/148.66, Now #10; Best prior run: 3.992/323.43, Was #9
Right Lane: Cruz Pedregon Runs 3.963/321.35, Now #9; Best prior run: 14.799/45.53, Was #15

Last time out, Pedregon shook the rear tires hard and shut the car down early. This time, he made it down the track but lost a cylinder or two on the way. Lindberg shook the rear tires at 330 feet and clicked it off early.

Left Lane: Tim Wilkerson Runs 3.942/329.50, Now #6; Best prior run: 3.959/325.77, Was #7

Wilkerson lost a cylinder or two at the end of this run but was quick enough to move up one spot in the order.

Left Lane: Bob Tasca III Runs 3.937/318.77, Now #6; Best prior run: 3.958/310.70, Was #7
Right Lane: John Force Runs 3.978/324.12, Now #10; Best prior run: 6.253/107.79, Was #14

Tasca launched and had a good run going. He drifted a bit toward the centerline but did not cross over. Force looked like he had a good run going but he got off the throttle a little bit early. Force moved up four spots in the order, Tasca moved up one spot. Word from the Safety Safari is that Tasca's car oiled the track in the shutdown area.

Left Lane: Alexis DeJoria Runs 3.914/328.70, Now #2; Best prior run: 3.934/330.39, Was #4
Right Lane: Tommy Johnson Jr. Runs 3.957/326.00, Now #8; Best prior run: 5.058/148.49, Was #14

DeJoria moved up two spots in the order and is in the number two spot for now after a strong run down the track. Her ET is tied with Jack Beckman for the number one spot, but he gets the top spot on the basis of miles per hour. Johnson had a good run in the other lane that moved him up six spots in the order.

Left Lane: Matt Hagan Runs 3.874/335.82, Now #1; Best prior run: 3.933/329.58, Was #4
Right Lane: Ron Capps Runs 3.877/327.43, Now #2; Best prior run: 4.697/171.42, Was #14

Capps and Hagan ran alongside each other all the way down the track. Hagan took over the top spot in the order for now with a very strong run straight down the groove. Capps was just 0.003 seconds slower on the the track and he's in the number two spot for now.

Left Lane: Robert Hight Runs 3.844/339.02, Now #1; Best prior run: 3.921/329.02, Was #5

Hight's run down the track set new track records for ET and speed. His speed of 339.020 miles per hour is the second fastest in Funny Car history.

Left Lane: Jack Beckman Runs 3.925/327.82, Now #4; Best prior run: 3.914/330.55, Was #4
Right Lane: J.R. Todd Runs 3.929/326.87, Now #6; Best prior run: 3.961/324.98, Was #10

Both of these rides would have looked good earlier in the session but they looked almost slow after Hight's run. Todd moved up four spots in the order with this run while Beckman stayed where he was in the order.
