Top Alcohol Dragster Qualifying Notes, Session #1

GAINESVILLE, Fla. - Notes from round 1 qualifying in Top Alcohol Dragster at the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series, 47th annual AMALIE Motor Oil NHRA Gatornationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time, top speed, and position in order following run:
Left Lane: Al Moeser Runs 5.403/270.05, Now #1
Right Lane: Matthew Cummings Runs 19.783/26.90, Now #2

12:07 p.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 74 degrees, relative humidity 75 percent, barometer 29.82 inches, adjusted altitude 1,969 feet, track temperature 87 degrees.

Cummings rattles the tires, bangs the blower and the chutes deploy early. Moeser makes a clean pass to set the pace.

Left Lane: Ken Perry Runs 5.575/258.47, Now #2
Right Lane: Monroe Guest Runs 5.995/232.59, Now #3

Guest was putting raw fuel out at the hit, gets about 300 feet out and flames start coming from the right side. He stays on the throttle but was falling back all the way through the run. Perry makes a decent pass and gets in the second spot for now.

Left Lane: Megan Meyer Runs 11.255/68.01, Now #4
Right Lane: Jerry Powell Runs 13.955/68.31, Now #5

Powell goes up in smoke at the hit and is off the throttle quickly. Meyer gets a little further, loses traction and gives up on the run.

Left Lane: Tom Fox Jr. Runs 5.475/261.83, Now #2
Right Lane: Buddy Domingue Runs 12.147/91.35, Now #6

Domingue loses traction at the hit and is off the throttle quickly. Fox makes a clean pass and moves into the second spot.

Left Lane: Robin Samsel Runs 5.393/271.84, Now #1
Right Lane: Michael Manners No Time, Now #10

Manners had problems getting the car in gear after the burnout and did not make a pass. Samsel went right down the groove with the quickest pass of the round so far to take the pole for now.

Left Lane: Don Nolan Runs 21.136/244.96, Now #11
Right Lane: Jake Allen Runs 5.396/260.76, Now #2

Nolan gets about 60 feet out, bangs the blower and the chutes deploy. Allen makes a full pull in the right lane and moves into the second spot.

Word from the track, their is fluid in the left lane and we will be down for a clean up.

Left Lane: Jackie Fricke Runs 5.585/255.15, Now #7
Right Lane: Josh Hart Runs 5.450/269.03, Now #4

2:08 p.m. and we are back after an extended cleanup that lasted about 1 1/2 hours.

Hart went right down the groove with a clean pass to get in the field in the fourth spot for now. Fricke had a cylinder out on the left side early in the run and was falling back all the way down the track.

Left Lane: Richard Bourke Runs 5.434/266.48, Now #5
Right Lane: Rich McPhillips Runs 5.428/269.03, Now #4

McPhillips was on a good pass but lost a cylinder just before the finish line. Bourke made a clean pass and gets in the fifth spot for now.

Left Lane: John Finke Runs 5.567/264.18, Now #8
Right Lane: Jeff Veale Runs 5.666/257.68, Now #11

Veale had a cylinder out early in the run then it look like he lost another one a little before the finish line. Finke made a clean pass to get in the top half of the field for now.

Left Lane: Mia Tedesco Runs 5.451/260.91, Now #8
Right Lane: Duane Shields Runs 5.323/273.22, Now #1

Shields makes an impressive pass to end the session and moves into the top spot. Tedesco makes a clean pass and gets in the eighth spot.
