CIR Celebrates 15 years of Racing on New Year's Day

With cabin fever running rampart in January, many racers and fans alike are looking forward to racing their street vehicles at Cordova International Raceway on New Year's Day. "I like to come out and play around and race my wife in her HHR," said Port Byron, Illinois' Bob Gibson. Gibson, the current Heartland Stock/Super Stock Director and former Cordova track manager only feels slightly upset about the arrangement. "My truck is slower than hers though. I guess that's what bracket racing is for," he laughed. Gibson, along with the rest of CIR's cooped-up racers, can expect nothing but great times and plenty of street vehicles racing at the 15th running of CIR's HangoverFest.
Started by former Cordova International Raceway owner, Scott Gardner, HangoverFest has become a popular outlet for racing in the winter. "We're the only track in the Midwest who's been crazy enough for 15 years to race on New Year's Day," said Bobbi Jo Cox, General Manager. "Our goal is to provide something fun for our racers and fans to do in the winter. We encourage all types of street vehicles - cars, trucks, vans, you name it - but we just want them to be street vehicles. We broom and sweep the track in advance of racing, but we don't spray traction compound on the racing surface because it's just too cold."
New for 2016 is the addition of a brand-new HangoverFest sponsor, Quad City Spring. Located in Moline, Illinois, QC Spring has been in business since 1989 and prides themselves on being the place to find "that thing." Whether it is something for your vehicle suspension, trailer and towing, snow removal stuff, vehicle accessory or equipment needs, QC Spring is there to help you find it with their exceptional customer service and quality products. "Quad City Spring seemed a natural fit to sponsor our HangoverFest race," added Regis Murphy, CIR PR & Marketing. "With their vast selection of quality products for trucks along with the high number of trucks who race on New Year's Day, it seems like the perfect fit." QC Spring will be on hand during HangoverFest to meet all the racers and answer any questions.
So plan to join CIR on Friday, January 1, 2016 for some winter racing! Gates will open at 11am with test n tune and grudge racing from noon-4pm. Racing is only $25, with adult spectator tickets $8, and kids (6-12) only $3. The heated Interstate Batteries Pit Café will be open with plenty of delicious food, along with $1 Bloody Mary's for all non-racers in Zoomies Bar. The first 200 people through the gate will receive a free gift along with FREE aspirin for anyone who may need it from the night before! For further questions, call our office at 309-654-2110 or check www.racecir.com or Facebook for weather updates.
