Bruns, Horsley win Sunday Finals

At The Strip's inaugural Wild, Wild West Thanksgiving Classic



LAS VEGAS -- Jim Bruns of Silverdale, Wash., won the Super Pro finale on the final night of The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway's inaugural Wild, Wild West Thanksgiving Classic on Sunday, Dec. 1. Bruns collected $5,000 for his win over Lesli Crooks-Northup of Boise, Ida. Bruns posted a .508 reaction time to Lesli's .535. Bruns' '69 Camaro ran 10.355 sec. (on a 10.33 sec. dial-in) at 128.95 mph.

Scott Horsley of Las Vegas won the Pro finale in his "Class of '55" 1955 Chevrolet, defeating Steve Bunch of Littlerock, Calif. Horsley posted a reaction time of .505 to Bunch's .640, then ran 12.751 sec. (on a 12.77 sec. dial-in) at 101.60 mph to claim the B&M trophy.

PRO ($1,000-to-win) Winner: Scott Horsley (Las Vegas) '55 Chevrolet 210 12.751 sec./101.60 mph. Runner-up: Steve Bunch (Littlerock, Calif.) '67 Nova SS 12.437 sec./108.73 mph.

SATURDAY, NOV. 30 The combined Saturday-Sunday Jerry's Nugget Casino Run for the Money event, which included additional purse money from Jerry Mock and Write-On Window Markers, was won by Jeff Dewey of Twin Falls, Ida. (Super Pro) and Tom Easterday of Fullerton, Calif. (Pro).

SUPER PRO ($5,000-to-win) Winner: Mark Cook (LaGrange, Ohio) '99 Adkins dragster 7.891 sec./168.81 mph. Runner-up: Scott Lemen (Fruitland, Ida.) '99 Cameron dragster 8.019 sec./163.49 mph.

PRO ($1,000-to-win) Winner: Neil Evans (Las Vegas) '79 Chevrolet LUV 13.680 sec./99.90 mph. Runner-up: Matt Paulin (Melba, Ida.) '72 Barracuda 10.743 sec./125.11 mph.

FRIDAY, NOV. 29 Erik Marsik of Washington, Utah, won the Pro Division Jerry's Nugget Casino Run For The Money. Jamie Ellis of Mapleton, Utah, won the Jerry's Nugget Casino Run For The Money in the Super Pro class.

SUPER PRO ($2,500-to-win) Winner: Rick Northup (Boise, Ida.) '99 Davis dragster 8.922 sec./146.29 mph. Runner-up: David Chun Jr. (Vancouver, Wash.) '02 Brogie roadster 10.051 sec./139.04 mph.

PRO ($1,000-to-win) Winner: Matt Vanderlip (Chatsworth, Calif.) '67 Mustang 15.077 sec./85.82 mph. Runner-up: Don Millard (Bullhead City, Ariz.) '77 Corvette 11.203 sec./115.32 mph.

The Strip at LVMS will present its final drag racing programs of the 2002 season on Friday, Dec. 6, and Saturday, Dec. 7.

Friday, Dec. 6 -- Midnight Mayhem Late Night Street Drags
Gates open at 8 p.m., Grudge Drags from 9 p.m. - 2 a.m.
Spectators $5, racers $10.

Saturday, Dec. 7 -- Fun Drags Season Finale Test 'n' Tune / Street Muscle / Sport Compacts / Bracket Gambler Gates open: 8 a.m. Test 'n' Tune: 9 a.m.-4 p.m.
