GAINESVILLE, Fla. - Notes from round 2 qualifying in Pro Modified at the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series, 45th annual Amalie Oil NHRA Gatornationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:
Left Lane: Harold Martin Runs 16.723/61.01, Now #27; Best prior run: 14.638/67.82, Was #27

11:55 a.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 71 degrees, relative humidity 53 percent, barometer 29.98 inches, adjusted altitude 1,304 feet.

Martin launched into violent tire shake and had to lift.

Left Lane: Jim Bell Runs 5.958/246.89, Now #8; Best prior run: 12.228/70.22, Was #25
Right Lane: Kenny Lang Runs 6.023/239.82, Now #14; Best prior run: 12.381/94.64, Was #26

Shuffle the ladder, these two bumped into the field, putting Chris Juliano and Bill Glidden on the outside.

Now Dan Stevenson is on the bump spot at 6.165.

Jim Bell's incremental times: 60ft-1.030 sec., 330ft-2.723, 660ft-3.992/196.67 mph, 1,000ft-5.059.
Kenny Lang's incremental times: 60ft-1.002 sec., 330ft-2.660, 660ft-3.968/189.23 mph, 1,000ft-5.083.

Left Lane: Doug Winters Runs 10.792/96.50, Now #25; Best prior run: 12.097/69.24, Was #26
Right Lane: Jim Laurita Runs 5.912/236.71, Now #7; Best prior run: 10.678/82.03, Was #24

Winters shook and got sideways on the launch. Laurita made a nice run to shake the field up again.

Now Don Walsh is on the bump spot at 6.074.

Jim Laurita's incremental times: 60ft-0.980 sec., 330ft-2.634, 660ft-3.908/195.39 mph, 1,000ft-4.988.

Left Lane: Pete Farber Runs 6.331/239.70, Now #21; Best prior run: 11.147/83.03, Was #26
Right Lane: Chip King Runs 6.122/242.36, Now #17; Best prior run: 10.539/82.79, Was #24

Both improved, but neither made it into the field. Farber shook and pedaled a couple times.

Left Lane: Eric Latino Runs 5.902/247.84, Now #6; Best prior run: 8.257/117.80, Was #22
Right Lane: Todd Tutterow Runs 5.943/240.42, Now #9; Best prior run: 10.123/95.28, Was #25

Two nice runs to bump into the field. That puts Lang and Don Walsh on the outside.

Left Lane: Mike Castellana Runs 5.863/244.56, Now #3; Best prior run: 5.996/240.81, Was #15
Right Lane: Clint Satterfield Runs 10.748/81.76, Now #25; Best prior run: 9.823/91.53, Was #25

Satterfield's car spun the tires, fishtailed a couple times, and he lifted. Castellana made a pretty run to move way up the ladder.

Mike Castellana's incremental times: 60ft-0.977 sec., 330ft-2.596, 660ft-3.864/195.42 mph, 1,000ft-4.945.

Left Lane: Kevin Fiscus Runs 5.952/245.49, Now #12; Best prior run: 5.990/245.40, Was #15
Right Lane: Troy Coughlin Runs 5.953/245.67, Now #13; Best prior run: 8.766/122.32, Was #24

Two hair dryers paired up here...and they made almost-identical runs, side-by-side all the way.

Kevin Fiscus' incremental times: 60ft-1.016 sec., 330ft-2.679, 660ft-3.952/194.66 mph, 1,000ft-5.036.
Troy Coughlin's incremental times: 60ft-1.024 sec., 330ft-2.721, 660ft-3.973/198.52 mph, 1,000ft-5.041.

Now Mike Knowles is on the bump spot at 5.980.

Left Lane: Mike Knowles No Time, Now #16; Best prior run: 5.980/246.80, Was #16
Right Lane: Bill Glidden Runs 6.061/233.96, Now #19; Best prior run: 6.279/199.88, Was #23

Knowles launched into hard shake, pedaled it and popped the burst panel. Glidden had a strong launch, but ran out of steam on the top end.

Left Lane: Craig Cawte Runs 14.390/65.99, Now #15; Best prior run: 5.966/227.19, Was #15
Right Lane: Chris Juliano Runs 6.209/230.57, Now #23; Best prior run: 6.225/219.86, Was #23

Juliano made a full pass, just a bit better than yesterday, but a couple tenths off the competitive pace.

Left Lane: Raymond Commisso Runs 5.948/245.40, Now #11; Best prior run: 5.948/237.42, Was #11
Right Lane: Dan Stevenson Runs 6.168/240.47, Now #22; Best prior run: 6.165/239.78, Was #22

Commisso matched his ET from yesterday, with a much better speed. Unfortunately, Stevenson almost matched his ET from yesterday, leaving him well out of the field.

Left Lane: Steve Matusek Runs 13.026/63.45, Now #8; Best prior run: 5.904/246.26, Was #8
Right Lane: Don Walsh Runs 5.995/250.69, Now #17; Best prior run: 6.074/247.34, Was #20

Matusek got just past the tree and the car made an immediate right turn. he caughtit before it crossed the center. Walsh i9mproved nicely, but came up just short of the field.

Left Lane: Rickie Smith Runs 5.887/245.05, Now #5; Best prior run: 5.889/245.09, Was #5
Right Lane: Kevin Rivenbark Runs 5.975/237.50, Now #16; Best prior run: 6.013/239.06, Was #18

Both improved, Smith just a couple thousandths, Rivenbark just enough to take over the bump spot.

Left Lane: Danny Rowe Runs 5.858/249.49, Now #1; Best prior run: 5.862/250.55, Was #1
Right Lane: Jason Hamstra Runs 5.882/244.96, Now #4; Best prior run: 5.866/246.30, Was #4

Nice run by Rowe to improve his hold on the #1 spot. Hamstra also made a good run, but failed to improve.

Danny Rowe's incremental times: 60ft-0.969 sec., 330ft-2.605, 660ft-3.882/195.65 mph, 1,000ft-4.955.
Jason Hamstra's incremental times: 60ft-0.984 sec., 330ft-2.608, 660ft-3.877/194.24 mph, 1,000ft-4.963.

Right Lane: Mike Janis Runs 5.885/246.44, Now #2; Best prior run: 5.862/247.93, Was #2

Janis closed out the round with a nice run, but no improvement.

Mike Janis' incremental times: 60ft-1.003 sec., 330ft-2.621, 660ft-3.890/195.17 mph, 1,000ft-4.972.

With one qualifying session left, Danny Rowe is #1 at 5.858 and Kevin Rivenbark is on the bump spot at 5.975.
