LAS VEGAS - Notes from final, round 3 qualifying in Top Alcohol Funny Car at the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series, 13th annual NHRA Toyota Nationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:
Left Lane: Sean Bellemeur Runs 5.705/253.28, Now #17; Best prior run: 7.082/112.72, Was #24
Right Lane: Bernie Harrington Runs 5.845/226.62, Now #21; Best prior run: 5.863/244.29, Was #22

6:22 p.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 78 degrees, relative humidity 23 percent, barometer 27.92 inches, adjusted altitude 3,978 feet.

Harrington was dancing around all the way through the run and he doesn't improve enough to get in the show. Bellemeur makes a full pass this time but doesn't get in the field.

Left Lane: Ulf Leanders Runs 8.605/114.53, Now #24; Best prior run: 6.331/255.48, Was #24
Right Lane: Charles McLaws Runs 5.799/248.52, Now #21; Best prior run: 5.859/247.61, Was #22

Leanders made a violent move to the left at the hit and had to back off the throttle. he gets back on it but had lost too much time. McLaws improves but will not be racing tomorrow.

Left Lane: John Evanchuk Runs 5.706/252.66, Now #18; Best prior run: 5.862/245.58, Was #23
Right Lane: Clint Thompson Runs 13.578/77.17, Now #19; Best prior run: 5.707/248.07, Was #18

Thompson smokes the tires at the hit, tries to recover, then gives up on the run. Evanchuk makes his quickest pass of the weekend but doesn't make the show.

Left Lane: Nick Januik Runs 5.728/251.06, Now #20; Best prior run: 5.759/252.95, Was #21
Right Lane: Steve Harker Runs 5.783/255.00, Now #16; Best prior run: 5.702/255.15, Was #16

Januik was drifting to the left all the way through the run but stayed on the throttle for his quickest pass ever. Harker made a clean pass but did not improve.

Left Lane: Hannes Wernhart Runs 5.697/251.67, Now #15; Best prior run: 5.744/250.97, Was #21
Right Lane: Doug Gordon Runs 5.688/252.05, Now #13; Best prior run: 5.700/252.57, Was #15

Gordon makes his quickest pass of the weekend and moves up to the 13th spot. Wernhart gets in the show in the 15th spot.

Left Lane: Kris Hool Runs 5.775/224.85, Now #14; Best prior run: 5.697/255.15, Was #14
Right Lane: Bret Williamson Runs 5.711/251.11, Now #16; Best prior run: 5.698/251.16, Was #16

Hool was moving around all the way through the run, getting close to the centerline near the finish line, but he stays on the throttle. He doesn't improve and will stay in the 14th spot. Williamson makes a decent pass but doesn't improve.

Left Lane: Jason Rupert Runs 5.673/254.04, Now #9; Best prior run: 5.677/253.99, Was #12
Right Lane: Cody Perkins Runs 19.963/35.72, Now #11; Best prior run: 5.676/256.70, Was #10

Perkins goes up in smoke at the hit and clicks it off early. Rupert makes his quickest pass of the weekend and moves up three spots to ninth.

Left Lane: Mark Woznichak Runs 12.291/79.74, Now #12; Best prior run: 5.676/255.82, Was #12
Right Lane: Steve Gasparrelli Runs 5.707/256.26, Now #10; Best prior run: 5.674/255.82, Was #10

Woznichak goes up in smoke at the hit and aborts the run. Gasparelli makes a decent pass but doesn't improve.

Left Lane: Von Smith Runs 5.661/258.91, Now #8; Best prior run: 5.658/258.42, Was #7
Right Lane: Frank Manzo Runs 5.570/260.86, Now #2; Best prior run: 5.671/260.11, Was #8

Manzo makes his quickest pass of the weekend and moves up to the second spot. Smith slows and drops a spot to eighth.

Left Lane: John Lombardo Jr. Runs 5.614/258.67, Now #5; Best prior run: 5.609/258.76, Was #5
Right Lane: Jirka Kaplan No Time, Now #7; Best prior run: 5.634/251.86, Was #7

Kaplan was scheduled to run with Lombardo but did not make a run. Lombardo makes a decent pass but does not improve.

Left Lane: Tony Bartone Runs 5.589/259.51, Now #3; Best prior run: 5.571/260.36, Was #3
Right Lane: Shane Westerfield Runs 15.084/56.57, Now #6; Best prior run: 5.623/258.02, Was #6

Westerfield goes up in smoke at the hit and gives up on the run. Bartone doesn't improve and stays in the third spot.

Left Lane: Annie Whiteley Runs 5.590/257.09, Now #1; Best prior run: 5.560/257.73, Was #1
Right Lane: Jay Payne Runs 5.629/256.50, Now #4; Best prior run: 5.578/258.57, Was #4

Whiteley and Payne go right down the groove with good runs but neither improve.
