WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah --
More than 6,000 fans witnessed some of the fastest drag racing the state of Utah has ever seen at
Rocky Mountain Raceways' Night of Fire Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event this past weekend. In
addition to the annual jet car show, fans watched drag racers from across the west coast go head to
head for NHRA divisional and national points.
Alan Ellis, from Mapleton, Utah, bested Jeff Lane, from North Bend, Wash., for the Competition
Eliminator event win in 6.761 seconds at 197.41 mph. Ed Olpin, Pleasant Grove, Utah, claimed the
Top Sportsman event trophy over fellow Utah racer Flip Payne out of Taylorsville. Olpin went 7.671
at 179.85 to Payne's quicker 7.135, 83.52.
Ryan Kruger, from Murray, Utah, secured the win in the NHRA Sportsman Motorcycle Series presented
by Harley-Davidson taking out Craig Jensen on his '09 Kawasaki.
"One of our largest crowds of the season was treated to more than 300 of the coolest race cars from
throughout the country. We are so appreciative of all of the racers that traveled from both near
and far to be with us. This is the biggest drag race we have held in a number of years at our
facility. Congratulations to all of our worthy event winners," says Mike Eames, Rocky Mountain
Raceways General Manager.
