Top Fuel Qualifying Notes, Session #2

BRAINERD, Minn. - Notes from round 2 qualifying in Top Fuel at the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series, 32nd annual Lucas Oil NHRA Nationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:
Left Lane: Luigi Novelli Runs 4.558/177.42, Now #10; No Prior Run

Weather conditions: air temperature 79 degrees, relative humidity 43 percent, barometer 28.82 inches, adjusted altitude 3,187 feet, track temperature 107 degrees.

Novelli skipped the earlier qualifying session. Novelli started to spin the tires early and then the engine started to eat itself up before he clicked it off.

Left Lane: Shawn Langdon Runs 3.797/311.99, Now #1; Best prior run: 6.150/108.32, Was #17
Right Lane: Chris Karamesines Runs 4.750/161.04, Now #13; No Prior Run

Karamesines started to smoke the tires just past 330 feet and he clicked it off. Langdon launched hard and was on a great pass until right in the lights when it lost power. He still goes to the number one spot. Shawn Langdon's incremental times: 60ft-0.841 sec., 330ft-2.146, 660ft-3.046/283.85 mph.

Left Lane: David Grubnic Runs 3.806/324.12, Now #2; Best prior run: 6.001/102.80, Was #18
Right Lane: Tim Cullinan Runs 6.606/92.57, Now #19; Best prior run: 6.918/92.98, Was #19

Cullinan was up in smoke early and clicked it off. Grubnic launched hard and keep it hooked up to go to the number two spot. He runs the fastest pass of the weekend. David Grubnic's incremental times: 60ft-0.841 sec., 330ft-2.150, 660ft-3.056/281.13 mph.

Left Lane: Brittany Force Runs 4.850/151.70, Now #17; Best prior run: 5.838/110.38, Was #17
Right Lane: Steve Torrence Runs 3.818/323.66, Now #3; Best prior run: 5.924/106.91, Was #18

Force is up in smoke around 400 feet and clicked it off. Torrence with a great looking pass, straight down the groove to go to the number three spot. Steve Torrence's incremental times: 60ft-0.843 sec., 330ft-2.153, 660ft-3.067/278.92 mph.

Left Lane: T.J. Zizzo Runs 3.852/284.33, Now #8; Best prior run: 4.916/142.64, Was #18
Right Lane: Tony Schumacher Runs 3.823/322.58, Now #4; Best prior run: 4.630/162.76, Was #14

Zizzo had some engine smoke trailing the car at the launched and it cleared up and he goes to the number eight spot. T.J. Zizzo's incremental times: 60ft-0.840 sec., 330ft-2.156, 660ft-3.062/281.83 mph. Schumacher with a real nice pass as he has it hitting on all eight all the way down the track. He goes to the number four spot. Tony Schumacher's incremental times: 60ft-0.836 sec., 330ft-2.172, 660ft-3.073/283.43 mph.

Left Lane: Doug Kalitta Runs 4.249/209.62, Now #13; Best prior run: 4.847/149.85, Was #17
Right Lane: Terry McMillen Runs 3.858/321.88, Now #10; Best prior run: 4.313/196.90, Was #12

Kalitta was up in smoke around half track and clicked it off. McMillen with a good clean pass to get off the bump and go to the number 10 spot. Terry McMillen's incremental times: 60ft-0.846 sec., 330ft-2.179, 660ft-3.101/277.37 mph.

Left Lane: Tommy Johnson Jr. Runs 3.820/316.90, Now #4; Best prior run: 4.528/172.96, Was #15
Right Lane: Antron Brown Runs 3.821/319.45, Now #5; Best prior run: 3.902/313.37, Was #12

This was good side-by-side drag race all the way down the track. Johnson Jr. goes to the number four spot and Brown is just a tick slower for the number five spot. Tommy Johnson Jr.'s incremental times: 60ft-0.841 sec., 330ft-2.157, 660ft-3.059/282.42 mph.
Antron Brown's incremental times: 60ft-0.844 sec., 330ft-2.155, 660ft-3.064/278.81 mph.

Left Lane: Bob Vandergriff Runs 3.897/283.97, Now #14; Best prior run: 4.520/170.30, Was #15
Right Lane: Brandon Bernstein Runs 3.823/322.65, Now #6; Best prior run: 3.864/317.64, Was #13

Vandergriff was on a good pass and then slowed on the top end and he will start tomorrow with no time. Bernstein with a real good pass to get into the top half of the show. He tied Schumacher's E.T., and gets the position based on his faster speed. Brandon Bernstein's incremental times: 60ft-0.844 sec., 330ft-2.167, 660ft-3.072/281.83 mph.

Left Lane: Spencer Massey Runs 3.792/324.05, Now #2; Best prior run: 3.857/316.23, Was #12
Right Lane: Clay Millican Runs 3.773/326.63, Now #1; Best prior run: 3.835/321.12, Was #9

This was a great side-by-side drag race as these two go to the top of the list. Millican launched hard and keep the big Goodyears hooked up to go to the number one spot. That pass tied the track E.T. record. Clay Millican's incremental times: 60ft-0.835 sec., 330ft-2.142, 660ft-3.032/286.74 mph. Massey with a great looking pass to go to the number two spot. Spencer Massey's incremental times: 60ft-0.848 sec., 330ft-2.148, 660ft-3.045/283.73 mph.

Left Lane: Morgan Lucas Runs 4.426/179.40, Now #11; Best prior run: 3.849/321.50, Was #11
Right Lane: Khalid alBalooshi Runs 6.304/95.35, Now #10; Best prior run: 3.828/320.89, Was #10

alBalooshi starts to lose traction early and clicks it off. Lucas went up in smoke and clicked it off.
