Pro Extreme Round 1 Eliminations
By Larry Sullivan

PETERSBURG, Va. - Results of round 1 eliminations in Pro Extreme at the 2013 ADRL Tour presented by Speedtech, Simply Phones U.S. Drags VI:

7 Alex Hossler 2695 Bubba Stanton
E1 ****WINNER**** 0.048 3.969 157.08 0.030 5.390 90.16
 Qualified: #1 3.594 209.56 #14 6.642 84.94
11:49 a.m. We open with the #1 qualifier against the former champion. Stanton normally qualifies in the top half of the field, but had problems on both qualifying runs yesterday - and there was no third session.

Stanton was first off the line, but once again ran into shake and had to lift. Hossler didn't get away free, however, getting so close to the wall that he kicked up a trail of dust - but there was no contact and the run stands. He gets a bye to the semifinals, so the ET he lost when he backed off won't hurt him next round.

38 Neal Wantye 202 Todd Tutterow
E1 ****WINNER**** 0.047 4.451 117.99 0.053 4.540 168.07
 Qualified: #8 3.829 198.15 #7 3.751 205.38
With 14 cars, these two are the closest-qualified cars on the ladder.

Both drivers had problems, Tutterow shaking and backpedaling early in the run, then Wantye getting way out of shape and almost hitting the wall, forcing him to lift. Tutterow was closing fast, but ran out of race track.

Neal Wantye's incremental margins: 60ft(0.069), 330 ft(0.323). MOV: 0.0955 seconds (approximately 24 feet).

316 Danny Lowry 1130 John Stanley
E1 0.033 5.664 88.12 ****WINNER**** 0.016 3.697 206.13
 Qualified: #9 4.336 143.66 #6 3.695 206.26
Both cars had good launches, but L:owry slowed almost immediately. It probably didn't matter, Stanley had a great light and matched his qualifying pace for the win.

2007 Joey Martin 2 Jason Scruggs
E1 ****WINNER**** 0.056 3.725 205.19 0.022 3.955 197.13
 Qualified: #13 6.186 86.53 #2 3.605 212.43
Martin struggled in qualifying, but he didn't struggle here, his car a little to the right of the groove, but never wavering or lifting. Scruggs had a great light and the early lead, but ran into shake and had to slap the throttle to get through it. Martin took advantage of Scruggs' problems and took the lead for good.

Joey Martin's incremental margins (negative if behind): 60ft(-0.037), 330 ft(0.104). MOV: 0.1962 seconds (approximately 57 feet).

Martin will have lane choice against W antye in round 2.

1963 Gene Hector 2377 Von Smith
E1 0.040 3.746 198.00 ****WINNER**** 0.044 3.686 208.84
 Qualified: #10 4.799 106.17 #5 3.693 208.30
Hector was the decided underdog in this matchup, but he gave Smith a good contest and Smith had to improve on his qualifying pace to get the win light with a top-end surge.

Von Smith's incremental margins (negative if behind): 60ft(0.005), 330 ft(0.002). MOV: 0.0564 seconds (approximately 16 feet).

   18 Steve George 1382 Tommy D'Aprile
E1 0.039 3.941 189.02 ****WINNER**** 0.038 3.658 207.59
 Qualified: #12 5.694 87.70 #3 3.648 206.92
A school bus against a Corvette? Yup!

It wasn't as lopsided as it sounds, the bus leaving right with the Corvette, but slowly losing ground.D'Aprile almost matched his qualifying pace and he will have lane choice against Stanley in round 2.

48 Brandon Snider 1 Mick Snyder
E1 0.040 4.965 105.87 ****WINNER**** 0.044 3.722 205.76
 Qualified: #11 4.969 132.28 #4 3.680 203.40
Snyder & Snider - sounds like a law firm.

It was almost even at the start, but Snider's Corvette started fishtailin, left, then right, then up on the two right-side tires as he tried to get it back to the groove. He lifted. Snyder will face Smith in round 2, Smith has lane choice.
