BRISTOL, Tenn. --
This would allow the entire race to be completed in the event of any downtime and/or weather issues in addition to allowing all competitors the necessary time trials. Little did anyone know at the time how important that decision would come to fruition. Still left to be run are not only the main events, but also the American Race Cars/RaceTech Dragster Shootout, the Steve Schmidt Door Car Shootout, the Spring Fling $20,000 Challenge as well as allowing the completion of the Wiseco Points Chase which pays out an additional $8,750 in cash. As a bonus and to show their appreciation of the participation, promoters Peter Biondo and Kyle Seipel announced that providing the main event is completed by Sunday, a free entry Racer Appreciation Race will take place with $10,000 on the line for the winner. With one time trial session run, eliminations began around 1:00 in the afternoon. How tough is this crowd? Last night's winner and the current points leader, Chelsea Spence was dispatched in the first round. After over 500 cars made their way down the famed Bristol Dragway track to complete the first round, the second round began but Mother Nature had other plans. A strong storm moved through the area effectively ending Friday night's activities. After waiting out the storm as long as they could, the weekend's plans again took another turn. Biondo said, "Due to the weather, we have decided to complete the Friday $40,000-to-win on Saturday and immediately start our last $20,000-to-win JEGS-sponsored race. Unfortunately though, we're only going to be able to finish one or two rounds of that race on Saturday, before the barbeque and the Shootouts began. Seeing that, the plan is to complete that event on Sunday which will have cut into our planned Racer Appreciation Race. In this case, we'll take that free $10,000-to-win event and place the money onto the last Fling race making the last race $30,000 to win." The completion of the second round will begin sharply at 8:00 on Saturday morning.
