Top Fuel Qualifying Notes, Final Session

TOPEKA, Kan. - Notes from final, round 4 qualifying in Top Fuel at the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series, 25th annual NHRA Kansas Nationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:
Left Lane: Luigi Novelli Runs 4.067/264.60, Now #17; Best prior run: 11.565/76.98, Was #19

Weather conditions: air temperature 83 degrees, relative humidity 65 percent, barometer 28.65 inches, adjusted altitude 4,023 feet, track temperature 93 degrees.

Novelli started mixing up the cylinders and then the engine let go with a big fireball. The word from the track is there is oil on the track. This is a freebie for Novelli.

Left Lane: Bob Vandergriff Runs 3.872/317.64, Now #15; Best prior run: 4.003/297.48, Was #15
Right Lane: Morgan Lucas Runs 3.854/315.86, Now #14; Best prior run: 4.273/262.18, Was #19

Vandergriff improves, but will stay number 15 as Lucas moves in front of him. Bob Vandergriff's incremental times: 60ft-0.845 sec., 330ft-2.178, 660ft-3.105/275.06 mph. Lucas with a little puff of smoke on the top end, but gets in the show. Lucas goes to the number 14 spot. Morgan Lucas' incremental times: 60ft-0.860 sec., 330ft-2.183, 660ft-3.094/280.66 mph.

Left Lane: Scott Palmer Runs 4.117/243.68, Now #16; Best prior run: 3.995/286.32, Was #16
Right Lane: Tim Cullinan Runs 4.062/291.70, Now #18; Best prior run: 4.098/287.41, Was #19

Cullinan pushed out the head gasket with a quick flash of flames just past half track and he will not get in the show. Palmer clicked it off early and he will stay on the bump spot with only Dakin left that can bump him out.

Left Lane: Brittany Force Runs 3.856/295.34, Now #13; Best prior run: 3.846/320.89, Was #13
Right Lane: Pat Dakin Runs 3.918/310.70, Now #16; Best prior run: 4.012/263.82, Was #17

Dakin launched hard and keep it stuck to get in the show and that will bump out Palmer. Pat Dakin's incremental times: 60ft-0.870 sec., 330ft-2.197, 660ft-3.135/275.00 mph. Force clicked it off early and will start tomorrow from the luck No. 13 spot. Brittany Force's incremental times: 60ft-0.875 sec., 330ft-2.196, 660ft-3.088/283.79 mph.

Left Lane: Leah Pruett Runs 5.466/117.93, Now #11; Best prior run: 3.833/311.85, Was #11
Right Lane: Terry McMillen Runs 7.420/81.70, Now #12; Best prior run: 3.842/321.96, Was #12

McMillen started to strike the tires around 200 feet and clicked it off. Pruett started to lose traction early and clicked it off.

Left Lane: Brandon Bernstein Runs 4.994/141.97, Now #10; Best prior run: 3.819/321.27, Was #10
Right Lane: Steve Torrence Runs 4.817/149.55, Now #9; Best prior run: 3.817/319.60, Was #9

Bernstein started to haze the tires first and clicked it off. Torrence started to haze the tires right after Bernstein and clicked it off.

Left Lane: Clay Millican Runs 3.820/319.90, Now #7; Best prior run: 3.811/321.12, Was #7
Right Lane: David Grubnic Runs 7.959/63.94, Now #8; Best prior run: 3.813/319.75, Was #8

Grubnic is up in smoke around 100 feet out and lifts. Millican launched hard and keep it hooked up with the quickest pass of the round. Clay Millican's incremental times: 60ft-0.846 sec., 330ft-2.161, 660ft-3.062/280.31 mph.

Left Lane: Doug Kalitta Runs 3.812/317.57, Now #3; Best prior run: 3.770/324.98, Was #3
Right Lane: Antron Brown Runs 5.047/140.62, Now #6; Best prior run: 3.803/316.15, Was #6

Brown is up in smoke around 300 feet and lifts. Kalitta is straight down the groove with the quickest pass of the session now. Doug Kalitta's incremental times: 60ft-0.849 sec., 330ft-2.159, 660ft-3.052/282.90 mph.

Left Lane: Tony Schumacher Runs 3.829/320.97, Now #2; Best prior run: 3.769/326.08, Was #2
Right Lane: Spencer Massey Runs 4.636/161.46, Now #5; Best prior run: 3.794/319.75, Was #5

Massey is up in smoke around 330 feet. Schumacher with the third quickest pass of the session...Tony Schumacher's incremental times: 60ft-0.855 sec., 330ft-2.163, 660ft-3.071/278.06 mph.

Left Lane: Shawn Langdon Runs 3.791/318.02, Now #1; Best prior run: 3.767/322.50, Was #1
Right Lane: Khalid alBalooshi Runs 3.822/319.98, Now #4; Best prior run: 3.794/324.44, Was #4

alBalooshi is straight down the groove of the right lane that has been giving everyone else so much trouble. He runs the fourth quickest pass of the round and the quickest pass out of the right lane. Khalid alBalooshi's incremental times: 60ft-0.853 sec., 330ft-2.174, 660ft-3.071/283.37 mph. Langdon launched hard and was straight down the groove with the quickest pass of the round. Shawn Langdon's incremental times: 60ft-0.861 sec., 330ft-2.161, 660ft-3.041/286.80 mph. Langdon qualifies No. 1 for the third time this season and the ninth time in his career.
