TOPEKA, Kan. - Notes from round 2 qualifying in Top Alcohol Funny Car at the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series, 25th annual NHRA Kansas Nationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:
Left Lane: Doug Gordon Runs 6.340/175.59, Now #12; No Prior Run

Gordon with a lot of tire shake and pedaled it to get a time on the sheet.

Left Lane: Lance Van Hauen Runs 5.923/238.55, Now #10; Best prior run: 6.342/232.23, Was #13
Right Lane: Wayne Butler Runs 5.928/221.56, Now #11; No Prior Run

Weather conditions: air temperature 84 degrees, relative humidity 63 percent, barometer 28.72 inches, adjusted altitude 3,805 feet, track temperature 125 degrees.

These two were side-by-side all the way down the track to go to the 10 and 11 spots. Lance Van Hauen's incremental times: 60ft-0.981 sec., 330ft-2.595, 660ft-3.875/191.92 mph, 1,000ft-4.982.
Wayne Butler's incremental times: 60ft-0.996 sec., 330ft-2.585, 660ft-3.866/191.84 mph, 1,000ft-4.970.

Left Lane: Scott McVey Runs 5.777/250.37, Now #9; Best prior run: 6.219/207.37, Was #13
Right Lane: Steve Griboski No Time, Now #15; No Prior Run

Griboski brought the rpms up and then left before the tree was activated for the second time today. McVey with a real nice pass to move up the ladder four spots. Scott McVey's incremental times: 60ft-1.013 sec., 330ft-2.585, 660ft-3.822/199.88 mph, 1,000ft-4.880.

Left Lane: Charles McLaws Runs 5.850/247.34, Now #11; Best prior run: 5.892/247.07, Was #10
Right Lane: Kris Hool Runs 5.825/251.30, Now #10; Best prior run: 6.039/247.93, Was #13

Hool with a good pass to move up the ladder three spots. Kris Hool's incremental times: 60ft-1.005 sec., 330ft-2.615, 660ft-3.865/198.41 mph, 1,000ft-4.929. McLaws improved, but was bumped back one spot. Charles McLaws' incremental times: 60ft-1.002 sec., 330ft-2.609, 660ft-3.868/196.87 mph, 1,000ft-4.941.

Left Lane: Terry Ruckman Runs 5.757/250.13, Now #7; Best prior run: 5.773/252.33, Was #8
Right Lane: Mark Billington Runs 5.798/249.16, Now #8; Best prior run: 5.762/253.28, Was #7

Ruckman with a good looking pass, straight down the groove to move up the ladder one spot. Terry Ruckman's incremental times: 60ft-0.987 sec., 330ft-2.559, 660ft-3.800/199.11 mph, 1,000ft-4.861. Billington with another good pass, but gets bumped back one spot. Mark Billington's incremental times: 60ft-1.001 sec., 330ft-2.579, 660ft-3.825/197.45 mph, 1,000ft-4.896.

Left Lane: John Lombardo Jr. Runs 5.642/257.73, Now #4; Best prior run: 5.713/255.92, Was #5
Right Lane: Tony Bartone Runs 5.652/256.65, Now #5; Best prior run: 5.741/257.43, Was #6

This was good side-by-side drag race and they both move up the ladder one spot. John Lombardo Jr.'s incremental times: 60ft-0.968 sec., 330ft-2.524, 660ft-3.734/204.70 mph, 1,000ft-4.767.
Tony Bartone's incremental times: 60ft-0.989 sec., 330ft-2.535, 660ft-3.742/204.85 mph, 1,000ft-4.776.

Left Lane: Sean Bellemeur Runs 5.739/251.58, Now #6; Best prior run: 5.707/251.86, Was #6
Right Lane: Jirka Kaplan Runs 5.935/252.19, Now #2; Best prior run: 5.625/256.60, Was #2

Kaplan with a lot of tire shake right at the hit and drove through it, but will not improve. Another good pass for Bellemeur, but he will not improve. Sean Bellemeur's incremental times: 60ft-0.977 sec., 330ft-2.556, 660ft-3.789/200.02 mph, 1,000ft-4.845.

Left Lane: Shane Westerfield Runs 6.386/163.00, Now #3; Best prior run: 5.641/256.21, Was #3
Right Lane: Jay Payne Runs 5.651/255.87, Now #1; Best prior run: 5.620/255.53, Was #1

Westerfield was on a good pass and then around half track there was a big bang and he coasted on through the 1320. Payne with the second quickest pass of the session, but will not improve on his No. 1 qualifying spot. Jay Payne's incremental times: 60ft-0.979 sec., 330ft-2.525, 660ft-3.736/203.58 mph, 1,000ft-4.773.
