NORWALK, Ohio -- Saturday, April 27, 2013: Summit Racing Equipment Motorsports Park is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year. They thought they would open the 2013 season with an event that used to be a staple at this track for several decades.

The GLNFCC was booked in along with Al Hanna's Queen of Diamonds Jet Dragster driven by Jill Canuso. The sun Gods were on our side as the day was mostly sunny and was over 70 degrees by midafternoon.

The show was kicked off with a fan fest on the track. All of the show vehicles along with the 4 finalist in each of the junior dragster classes were brought out on the track so the spectators could mingle around on the track to look at the cars, talk with the drivers and get autographs.

After about 45 minutes the cars were sent back to the staging lanes to start the show. First pair up for The GLNFCC was the Total Insanity Monza driven by Chris Massarella taking on Lance Good's Sharky's Machine Omni. Both cars came out with some strong burnouts but the Omni continued down the track, as their seemed to be a throttle issue.

Chris backed up from his burn out and did three sharp dry hops before staging. The Monza ran a nice clean pass crossing the finish line with a 7.24/182 mph.

Next pair was the GLNFCC burnout kings. The Dazed & Confused '69 Camaro driven by Jerry Streb and the Old & Fuelish '78 Corvette driven by John DeCort. Both car came out hard and did not stop till almost the end of the quarter mile. This brought a big response from the crowd. Both cars staged with the Camaro leaving first, but the Corvette caught up and passed the Camaro stopping the clocks at 7.002/187 mph.

The last car out was a recently finished car that was along for some test passes. This is Streakers Ride driven by Ron Ooms. The car made a hard start, but got out of the groove and Ron shut it off early making a 8.57 run.

With the first round completed the stage was set for the finals. The two quickest winners from the first round would compete in the finals to be the Funny Car Fox Hunt Champion. The Dazed & Confused Camaro broke on the first pass so he could not return to make the second round.

The consolation round pitted Sharky's Machine Omni against the new guy Ron Ooms in the '69 Camaro Streakers Ride. As both cars did their burnouts the Sharky's Machine Omni seem to have issues about halfway through the burnout with sparks coming from the engine.

This put an end to the Omnis night. Streakers Ride staged and made a hard pass down the quarter mile come extremely close to the cones at the end of the track. The timing board lite up with a 6.81/181 mph.

Total Insanity
The finals were next with the Total Insanity Monza giving up almost 2.5 tenths to the Old & Fuelish Corvette. Both cars came out with huge smoky burnouts thrilling the crowd, and then as they staged the cars barked dry hops back and forth. The Monza did what he had to do and left first by a good margin, but the Corvette caught up and passed the Monza taking the win and the bragging rights with a 6.96/190 mph.

John DeCort is the first Peak Trophy winner of the 2013 season. Chris Massarella is the first Good Vibrations Reaction Time Award Winner for 2013.

We would like to thank all of the fine folks at Summit Racing Equipment Motorsports Park for the fine hospitality they show to The GLNFCC and for making us a part of their first race of their 50th anniversary season.

Next up, Beacon Dragway Grand Opening in Paducah Kentucky on May 18th.
