X-Treme Pro Stock Qualifying Notes, Final Session
By David Gerard

BRISTOL, Tenn. - Notes from final, round 4 qualifying in X-Treme Pro Stock at the 2013 X-Treme Drag Racing League, X-DRL Thunder Valley Madness listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:
Left Lane: Todd Hoerner Runs 4.251/172.08, Now #9; Best prior run: 5.207/96.70, Was #9
Right Lane: Lester Cooper Runs 5.802/83.94, Now #7; Best prior run: 4.162/172.87, Was #7

10:25 a.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 61 degrees, relative humidity 58 percent, barometer 28.69 inches, adjusted altitude 1,824 feet.

Cary Goforth is number one and Rocky Watford is on the bump spot at 4.241.

Hoerner is the only car that can bump into the field. He has a 4.098 career best, so the power is there, but he needs almost a second. OUCH! He leaves with a 0.983 sixty foot time and is a little loose going down the track. He finishes the pass under power and just misses the field by 0.010!

Coopers car is lazy off the line and he clicks it early.

Todd Hoerner's incremental times: 60ft-0.983 sec., 330ft-2.803.

Left Lane: Rocky Watford Runs 5.748/85.57, Now #8; Best prior run: 4.241/170.11, Was #8
Right Lane: Elijah Morton Runs 4.130/175.41, Now #6; Best prior run: 4.156/170.73, Was #6

Watford can't be bumped, but needs to move up the ladder. Not on this pass. The car is loose and shuts off early.

Morton improves his ET and speed on a strong pass, but it may be expensive, as there is a lot of smoke from the pipes in the lights. He stays #6.

Elijah Morton's incremental times: 60ft-1.000 sec., 330ft-2.722.

Left Lane: Richard Penland Runs 5.947/81.08, Now #5; Best prior run: 4.124/175.00, Was #5
Right Lane: Kevin Bealko Runs 4.083/177.11, Now #2; Best prior run: 4.119/175.55, Was #4

Middle of the pack qualifiers, so far.

They leave within 0.002 of each other, but Bealko puts ahead from there. Penland clicks it early and Bealko powers through the lights, moving up two positions on the ladder. He's #2 for now.

Kevin Bealko's incremental times: 60ft-0.983 sec., 330ft-2.690.

Left Lane: John Deflorian Jr. Runs 6.572/70.12, Now #4; Best prior run: 4.094/175.84, Was #4
Right Lane: Cary Goforth Runs 4.094/175.09, Now #1; Best prior run: 4.082/176.03, Was #1

Deflorian's Camaro has the car get loose after the sixty foot lights and he lifts.

Goforth has a full pass, but doesn't improve his number one times.

Cary Goforth's incremental times: 60ft-0.979 sec., 330ft-2.687.

Left Lane: Dean Goforth No Time, Now #3; Best prior run: 4.085/176.67, Was #3

Goforth leaves hard and has his hands full right off the bat. The GXP starts to drift out of the groove and then has the back end snap around, as he tries to correct. That pushes the car across the center line and into the right lane guard rail near the 400 foot mark with a lot of momentum. He's still fighting it, but the car slides back across the track and hits the left lane wall hard right before the eighth mile lights. The car comes to rest in the middle of the track after the finish line.

Goforth is OK, but the car isn't.
