Left Lane: Monroe Guest Runs 5.452/257.04, Now #1
Right Lane: Brandon Pierce Runs 7.090/131.82, Now #2
2:48 p.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 78 degrees, relative humidity 66 percent, barometer 30.14 inches, adjusted altitude 1,867 feet, track temperature 115 degrees.
There was a flash of flame from the top of Pierce's engine before half track
and he slowed.
Left Lane: Alan Bradshaw Runs 5.765/259.66, Now #2
Right Lane: James Thompson Runs 14.898/78.59, Now #4
Thompson "boiled the hides." bradshaw got a clean alunch, but the car moved over toward the wall and he lifted briefly to steer it back.
Left Lane: Michael Manners Runs 8.575/241.76, Now #4
Right Lane: Buddy Domingue Runs 9.196/111.02, Now #5
If this was eliminations, it would have been a pedaling contest. Both were up in smoke more than once.
Left Lane: Aaron Olivarez Runs 5.483/266.32, Now #2
Right Lane: Bill Evans Runs 6.123/228.58, Now #4
Clean pass for Olivarez to move into the #2 spot. Evans dropped a cylinder immediately and labored down the track.
Left Lane: Lee Callaway Runs 10.250/76.44, Now #8
Right Lane: David Brounkowski No Time, Now #10
Brounkowski's car was shut off on the line. Callaway launched, shook, and lifted.
Left Lane: Forrest Fair Runs 5.444/254.90, Now #1
Right Lane: Duane Shields Runs 5.827/236.38, Now #5
Fair goes to the top of the list with a clean mid-forties run. Shields shook and dropped a cylinder early in the run.
Left Lane: Rich McPhillips Runs 5.551/257.92, Now #5
Right Lane: Randy Meyer Runs 5.428/236.17, Now #1
This started out to be a good drag race, but McPhilips hazed the tires at half track and it looked from here like Meyer's chutes came out a little early.
Left Lane: Chris Demke Runs 5.362/266.06, Now #2
Right Lane: Jim Whiteley Runs 5.268/274.39, Now #1
Last pair and finally we get a couple of clean, competitive runs. Those times won't set any records, but they are easily the best two runs of the session.
