Funny Car Qualifying Notes, Session #3

LAS VEGAS - Notes from round 3 qualifying in Funny Car at the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series, 14th annual NHRA Nationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:
Left Lane: Josh Crawford Runs 8.487/85.18, Now #14; No Prior Run
Right Lane: Todd Lesenko Runs 4.432/264.44, Now #13; No Prior Run

1:43 p.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 83 degrees, relative humidity 20 percent, barometer 27.75 inches, adjusted altitude 4,513 feet, track temperature 118 degrees.

Crawford had a cylinder out on the hit and he lifted just before the 330-foot mark. No visible problems for Lesenko but his run was probably not as good as he wanted. He left a little oil in the shut down area.

Left Lane: Del Worsham Runs 4.148/299.66, Now #6; Best prior run: 4.172/300.26, Was #8
Right Lane: Jon Capps Runs 12.098/74.73, Now #15; No Prior Run

Instant tire smoke for Capps. A smooth pass for Worsham moves him up the ladder a couple of spots for now.

Del Worsham's incremental times: 60ft-0.932 sec., 330ft-2.371, 660ft-3.347/262.90 mph.

Left Lane: Gary Densham Runs 4.171/298.27, Now #10; No Prior Run
Right Lane: Cruz Pedregon Runs 4.113/307.72, Now #4; No Prior Run

Densham stuttered off the line but he still ran a decent number. Pedregon takes it straight down the groove to move into the top half of the field for now.

Gary Densham's incremental times: 60ft-0.926 sec., 330ft-2.365, 660ft-3.357/257.87 mph.
Cruz Pedregon's incremental times: 60ft-0.904 sec., 330ft-2.323, 660ft-3.316/259.31 mph.

Left Lane: John Force Runs 4.148/309.27, Now #7; Best prior run: 4.203/297.94, Was #14
Right Lane: Tim Wilkerson Runs 4.225/287.78, Now #15; No Prior Run

A good looking pass for Force. Wilkerson was a little to the right of the groove at the finish.

John Force's incremental times: 60ft-0.914 sec., 330ft-2.361, 660ft-3.356/260.46 mph.
Tim Wilkerson's incremental times: 60ft-0.944 sec., 330ft-2.408, 660ft-3.400/257.78 mph.

Left Lane: Tony Pedregon Runs 4.706/178.54, Now #14; Best prior run: 4.195/293.03, Was #14
Right Lane: Jeff Arend Runs 7.148/88.96, Now #17; No Prior Run

Both drivers struck the tires - Arend at about 300 feet and Pedregon at about 600 feet.

Left Lane: Alexis DeJoria Runs 4.138/299.60, Now #7; Best prior run: 4.181/302.48, Was #12
Right Lane: Jeff Diehl Runs 6.682/100.51, Now #17; No Prior Run

DeJoria was moving around her lane early in the run. Diehl lost traction at about 250 feet. He unsuccessfully tried to pedal through it.

Alexis DeJoria's incremental times: 60ft-0.925 sec., 330ft-2.362, 660ft-3.336/263.15 mph.

Left Lane: Chad Head Runs 4.388/228.19, Now #13; Best prior run: 4.183/267.16, Was #13
Right Lane: Jack Beckman Runs 4.539/191.13, Now #10; Best prior run: 4.158/297.16, Was #10

Both drivers hazed the tires in the middle section of the track.

Left Lane: Bob Tasca III Runs 4.192/290.76, Now #11; Best prior run: 4.165/307.09, Was #11
Right Lane: Johnny Gray Runs 4.957/159.12, Now #3; Best prior run: 4.107/309.42, Was #3

Gray struck the tires at about 400 feet. Tasca made a move toward the wall just before the finish.

Bob Tasca III's incremental times: 60ft-0.919 sec., 330ft-2.371, 660ft-3.367/259.96 mph.

Left Lane: Ron Capps Runs 4.708/177.65, Now #6; Best prior run: 4.133/302.55, Was #6
Right Lane: Courtney Force Runs 5.033/153.96, Now #2; Best prior run: 4.068/315.86, Was #2

Both drivers lost traction shortly before the 660-foot mark.

Left Lane: Matt Hagan Runs 4.205/262.03, Now #5; Best prior run: 4.115/306.53, Was #5
Right Lane: Robert Hight Runs 4.240/295.85, Now #1; Best prior run: 4.053/315.19, Was #1

Hagan was slowing before the finish. Hight was a little to the right of the groove on the top half of the track.

Matt Hagan's incremental times: 60ft-0.914 sec., 330ft-2.357, 660ft-3.352/258.67 mph.
Robert Hight's incremental times: 60ft-0.918 sec., 330ft-2.388, 660ft-3.414/251.63 mph.
