By Larry Sullivan

ROCKINGHAM, N.C. - Notes from round 1 qualifying in Extreme Pro Stock at the 2013 ADRL Tour presented by Speedtech, Dragpalooza IX listing lane, driver name, elapsed time, top speed, and position in order following run:
Left Lane: Lester Cooper Runs 5.449/116.16, Now #1
Right Lane: Scott Hintz Runs 7.070/86.55, Now #2

10:50 a.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 64 degrees, relative humidity 31 percent, barometer 29.82 inches, adjusted altitude 647 feet, track temperature 72 degrees.

Neither driver had the right setup for the launch pad.

Left Lane: Trevor Eman Runs 5.316/96.40, Now #2
Right Lane: John Deflorian Jr. Runs 4.025/180.26, Now #1

Deflorian is the current ET and speed record holder.

Well, no ET record, but he does have a pending speed record on this run and the ET is good enough to back up anything down to a 3.95.

John Deflorian Jr.'s incremental times: 60ft-0.971 sec., 330ft-2.653.

Left Lane: Elijah Morton Runs 4.121/175.64, Now #3
Right Lane: Richard Penland Runs 4.048/180.02, Now #2

Penland decided to take some of that 180 mph stuff for himself - that's also a pending speed record and a career-best ET. Mortonm made a good run, looked slow by comparison.

Richard Penland's incremental times: 60ft-0.988 sec., 330ft-2.672.

Left Lane: John Pluchino Runs 4.034/179.23, Now #2
Right Lane: Brian Gahm Runs 4.190/152.93, Now #5

An other impressive run, Pluchino with a career-best run, and Gahm made a good run once he got through some early shake, then lifted early.

John Pluchino's incremental times: 60ft-0.949 sec., 330ft-2.652.

Left Lane: Pete Berner Runs 4.327/133.63, Now #7
Right Lane: Doug Kirk Runs 4.125/177.60, Now #5

Berner's car jumped well left of the groove on the launch and he finally lifted because the car did not want to move away from the wall. Good run by Kirk, but a tenth off the front-runner pace.

Left Lane: Dean Goforth Runs 4.089/177.63, Now #4
Right Lane: John Montecalvo Runs 4.161/175.94, Now #7

Goforth took the long route to the stripe. Montecalvo had a good launch, then some early tire shake.

Right Lane: Cary Goforth Runs 4.039/180.14, Now #3

Cary Goforth closed the round with our third 180 mph run of the day and the second 4.03. That is a career-best speed, by the way.

Cary Goforth's incremental times: 60ft-0.985 sec., 330ft-2.667.
