By Larry Sullivan

NORWALK, Ohio - Notes from round 2 qualifying in Extreme Pro Stock at the American Drag Racing League, ADRL Summit Racing Equipment Ohio Drags VI presented by Mickey Thompson listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:
Left Lane: Richard Needham Jr. Runs 4.270/169.47, Now #14; No Prior Run

3:57 p.m. Needham is making his ADRL debut and only got as far as the head of staging in the first session.

The rookie made a nice run - nothing spectacular, but straight and smooth.

Left Lane: Trevor Eman Runs 4.097/177.18, Now #8; Best prior run: 6.562/97.37, Was #21
Right Lane: Scott Hintz Runs 4.127/174.89, Now #13; No Prior Run

This is the first outing for Hintz's new Jerry Haas Mustang.

Good first pass on the new Mustang and one of Emans' best runs ever.

That bumped Ron Miller and David Schorr, putting Richard Needham Jr. on the bump spot at 4.270.

Left Lane: Ron Miller Runs 4.196/172.43, Now #16; Best prior run: 4.315/153.21, Was #17
Right Lane: Lester Cooper Runs 4.145/173.07, Now #14; Best prior run: 8.498/57.84, Was #24

Miller bumped back in, but on the bump spot because Cooper stepped way up to bump Matt Bertsch.

Left Lane: Matt Bertsch Runs 4.294/172.21, Now #17; Best prior run: 4.230/146.96, Was #17
Right Lane: John Deflorian Jr. Runs 6.652/77.23, Now #24; Best prior run: 8.121/71.01, Was #24

Deflorian shook hard again. Bertsch didn't shake, but he was spinning the tires and got very close to the wall. No improvement for either driver.

Left Lane: Brad Waddle Runs 4.107/175.52, Now #10; Best prior run: 4.123/175.34, Was #12
Right Lane: Kevin Bealko Runs 7.320/61.79, Now #23; Best prior run: 6.305/73.58, Was #23

Waddle made a couple of "course adjustments" on this run, never lifted. Bealko shook, danced, and lifted.

Left Lane: Larry O'Brien Runs 4.067/176.97, Now #3; Best prior run: 4.109/175.11, Was #12
Right Lane: John Montecalvo Runs 6.228/94.57, Now #22; Best prior run: 6.203/93.48, Was #22

O'Brien uncorked a career-best run, both ET and speed. Montecalvo shook and danced and lifted.

Left Lane: Jeff Dobbins No Time, Now #11; Best prior run: 4.101/175.55, Was #10
Right Lane: Dean Goforth Runs 4.074/177.09, Now #5; Best prior run: 5.907/80.93, Was #21

Dobbins spun the tires hard, then the car went silent and he stopped before the finish line. Goforth made a flawless-looking run, straight, smooth and quick.

Now Richard Penland is on the bump spot at 4.157.

Left Lane: Elijah Morton Runs 5.959/79.74, Now #7; Best prior run: 4.080/177.23, Was #7
Right Lane: Tony Pontieri Runs 6.059/78.61, Now #21; Best prior run: 5.706/85.22, Was #21

Both launched, shook, and headed for the nearest wall.

Left Lane: Doug Kirk Runs 4.208/150.40, Now #6; Best prior run: 4.078/178.19, Was #6
Right Lane: David Schorr Runs 4.102/162.51, Now #12; Best prior run: 5.232/96.77, Was #20

Left Lane: John Pluchino Runs 4.139/175.66, Now #4; Best prior run: 4.073/177.49, Was #4
Right Lane: Richard Penland Runs 4.093/176.07, Now #10; Best prior run: 4.157/162.51, Was #17

Pluchino was in and out of the throttle on this run.

Right Lane: Brian Gahm Runs 4.316/136.69, Now #15; Best prior run: 4.108/177.14, Was #15

Gahm shut off past half track, did not see why. Goforth made a nice run, failed to improve, but he's been very quick twice in a row now.

Left Lane: Todd Hoerner Runs 4.059/178.68, Now #1; Best prior run: 4.056/178.21, Was #1
Right Lane: Richie Stevens Jr Runs 5.380/91.53, Now #9; Best prior run: 4.093/177.11, Was #9

Stevens made an aggressive launch, the front wheels in the air, but lifted when the rear tires started to shake. Hoerner made his second strong run of the day, just thousandths slower than his first.

Right Lane: Pete Berner Runs 5.536/88.07, Now #8; Best prior run: 4.090/176.42, Was #8

Berner had a strong launch, wheels up, then (stop me if you've heard this before) he shook and lifted.
