Pro Stock Motorcycle Qualifying Notes, Session #2
By Larry Sullivan

POMONA, Calif. - Notes from round 2 qualifying in Pro Stock Motorcycle at the NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series, 46th annual Automobile Club of Southern California NHRA Finals listing lane, rider name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:
Left Lane: Aaron Pine Runs 7.922/172.56, Now #24; No Prior Run
Right Lane: LE Tonglet Runs 6.943/189.31, Now #5; Best prior run: 12.187/63.12, Was #23

1:30 p.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 75 degrees, relative humidity 22 percent, barometer 29.13 inches, adjusted altitude 2,291 feet, track temperature 99 degrees.

This is a 'must-have" run for Tonglet, he lost two points to Andrew Hines yesterday with a mechanical failure and needs to make strong runs in qualifying to stay less than two rounds behind going into eliminations. Pine is making his delayed first-start in Pro Stock Motorcycle.

Pine slowed early in the run, but Tonglet made a solid run - now we'll have to wait for the top runners to see if that's good enough to hold off Hines.

Left Lane: Katie Sullivan Runs 7.267/177.37, Now #22; Best prior run: 7.300/184.45, Was #22
Right Lane: Scotty Pollacheck No Time, Now #23; Best prior run: 7.301/180.52, Was #23

Pollachek pushed the bike away from the water box. Sullivan improved slightly over yesterday's run, is still way off the race pace.

Left Lane: Redell Harris Runs 7.287/188.81, Now #17; Best prior run: 7.119/187.81, Was #17
Right Lane: Chris MacLaurin Runs 7.370/164.11, Now #21; Best prior run: 7.250/180.74, Was #21

Harris had a lot of tire spin on the launch and never made up the lost time.

Left Lane: Freddie Camarena Runs 7.126/183.77, Now #16; Best prior run: 7.115/188.04, Was #16
Right Lane: Rhett Lougheed No Time, Now #20; Best prior run: 7.244/182.67, Was #20

Lougheed's bike bogged and died on the launch. Camarena ran slightly slower than he did yesterday, that's almost a tenth slower than he needs to be to make the field. Matt Guidera is on the bump spot at 7.049.

Left Lane: Matt Guidera Runs 7.026/185.82, Now #11; Best prior run: 7.049/188.73, Was #12
Right Lane: Mike Berry Runs 7.164/179.25, Now #19; Best prior run: 7.183/181.01, Was #19

Guidera made a slightly better run than yesterday, moved one spot off the bump spot. Berry also improved, but is more than a tenth off the qualifying pace.

Left Lane: Shawn Gann Runs 6.984/187.52, Now #9; Best prior run: 7.020/186.87, Was #10
Right Lane: Joe DeSantis Runs 7.186/182.43, Now #18; Best prior run: 7.120/189.52, Was #18

Gann improved into the sixes, moved up one spot.

Left Lane: Jim Underdahl Runs 6.938/190.38, Now #5; Best prior run: 6.983/193.85, Was #8
Right Lane: David Hope Runs 7.085/185.15, Now #13; Best prior run: 7.111/181.69, Was #15

Underdahl made a nice, straight, smooth run. Hope also improved slightly, but missed the provisional cutoff by one spot.

Left Lane: Craig Treble Runs 7.029/185.08, Now #8; Best prior run: 6.958/192.03, Was #8
Right Lane: Steve Johnson Runs 6.996/188.57, Now #10; Best prior run: 7.111/184.70, Was #15

Johnson improved over a tenth and got into the field. Treble lost ground from yesterday, stays eighth. Now Matt Guidera is on the bump spot at 7.026.

Left Lane: Michael Phillips Runs 7.065/187.34, Now #7; Best prior run: 6.948/193.71, Was #7
Right Lane: Bailey Whitaker Runs 7.226/152.00, Now #15; Best prior run: 7.090/183.84, Was #15

Whitaker was on a strong run, might have qualified, but the bike made a hard move to the left and he had to lift to stay off the centerline.

Left Lane: Matt Smith Runs 6.951/186.59, Now #4; Best prior run: 6.896/189.52, Was #4
Right Lane: Karen Stoffer Runs 6.966/187.86, Now #9; Best prior run: 7.031/186.10, Was #13

Smith failed to improve, but Stoffer stepped up and into the field. Now Angie Smith is on the bump spot at 7.016.

Left Lane: Andrew Hines Runs 6.931/189.63, Now #2; Best prior run: 6.874/193.24, Was #2
Right Lane: Angie Smith Runs 6.968/187.03, Now #10; Best prior run: 7.016/185.69, Was #12

The remaining riders are already qualified, so there won't be any more bumping. Hines ran low ET of the session and that is a blow to Tonglet if somebody does not unseat Hines.

Left Lane: Hector Arana Runs 6.925/186.69, Now #2; Best prior run: 6.870/194.35, Was #1
Right Lane: Eddie Krawiec Runs 6.865/194.21, Now #1; Best prior run: 6.893/193.54, Was #3

Krawiec made the quaickest run of the weekend and both riders beat Hines' time for this round, so he only gained one point more against Tonglet. Krawiec gets three points, Arana gets two, Hines just one for the session.

Eddie Krawiec's incremental times: 60ft-1.077 sec., 330ft-2.855, 660ft-4.373/161.13 mph, 1,000ft-5.710. Hines now leads Tonglet by 37 points - still just two round ahead.
