CLERMONT, Ind. -- Snowmobile drag racing comes to O'Reilly Raceway Park during the NHRA Lucas Oil Spring Spectacle of Speed North Central Division Lucas Oil race. The event will take place on April 23 - 25 and the snowmobiles will race during the course of the event. The National Snowmobile Drag Racing Association (NSDRA), which originally started in 2005, will take to the quarter-mile for their first ever visit to historic O'Reilly Raceway Park.

"We can't wait to show people that these snowmobiles can go faster than they think is possible," said Richard Stumpf, coordinator for NSDRA. "Most of our average runs are in the 8.50 to 8.80 second range and our quickest run last year was 8.28 seconds at 154 miles per hour."

Similar to the NHRA Pro Stock Motorcycle class, the 2000 and newer production year snowmobiles run heads-up on a Pro tree with a maximum 1,000 cc naturally aspirated engine and a minimum weight of 650 lbs. including rider and gear. They are constructed to closely resemble a stock snowmobile and are made of either a custom built aluminum chassis or stock chassis with custom tubing. The standard front skis are replaced with aftermarket skis fitted with two wheels per ski. The rear track is replaced with a racing track, similar to a racing tire with no tread.

The NSDRA will be on track Friday at 5 p.m., and Saturday at 2 & 6 p.m. They will also race at Norwalk, OH., Route 66 Raceway, Ill., Columbus, OH., and at Brainerd, MN., during the course of their season.

The Lucas Oil Spectacle of Speed will also feature many other exciting events besides the thrilling snowmobile on track action. NHRA announcer and co-host of the ESPN Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series shows Bob Frey will be making a special guest appearance during the course of the event.

Frey will be shooting one of his NHRA Sportsman Spotlight segments to air as part of one of the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series shows taped from NHRA national events. Frey will join our Voice of Division 3 Leo Taugher for public address commentary during the event and will join Bob Glidden who was recently named Grand Marshall of the event in an autograph session Saturday afternoon.

The NHRA Lucas Oil Spring Spectacle of Speed features stars of the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series and is the opening event in the 2010 North Central Division schedule. Initial qualifying rounds are scheduled for Friday with final qualifying sessions Saturday and final elimination rounds Sunday. Tickets are $10 on Friday, $20 for Saturday or Sunday. Children 12 and under are free.
