JOLIET, Ill. - Notes from final, round 2 qualifying in Pro Stock at the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series, Third annual CARQUEST Auto Parts NHRA Nationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:
Right Lane: Robert Patrick Runs 6.958/201.07, Now #32; No Prior Run

3:52 p.m. Patrick broke on his first pass, so this will be his only chance to get in. Decent run, but not nearly enough.

Left Lane: V. Gaines Runs 6.878/202.42, Now #27; Best prior run: 7.550/138.70, Was #35
Right Lane: Jeff Dickey Runs 6.907/199.08, Now #32; Best prior run: 28.917/22.62, Was #39

The bump is Nick Fratt at 6.823. Career best for Dickey, but neither driver gets in.

Left Lane: David Strouse Jr. Runs 6.911/200.86, Now #32; Best prior run: 6.899/200.62, Was #31
Right Lane: Jason Line Runs 6.786/203.80, Now #8; Best prior run: 11.384/77.84, Was #39

It's overcast, with no sun on the track so we should see some quick times this round. Great run for Line as he gets in. Lastor is on the bump at 6.820.

Left Lane: Mike Trumble Jr Runs 6.872/200.53, Now #27; Best prior run: 6.889/200.35, Was #31
Right Lane: Mike Weinle Runs 10.262/89.58, Now #39; Best prior run: 9.228/104.18, Was #39

Trumble improves, but it's not enough. Weinle got out of shape and had to shut off.

Left Lane: Kevin Lawrence Runs 6.883/201.85, Now #31; Best prior run: 6.882/200.71, Was #30
Right Lane: Steve Johns Runs 6.815/202.97, Now #15; Best prior run: 7.551/169.36, Was #38

Johns gets in for now. Lawrence with his second straight 6.88, but he won't be racing on Sunday.

Left Lane: Arturo Delgado Runs 6.825/201.43, Now #20; Best prior run: 6.871/201.01, Was #27
Right Lane: David Howard Runs 6.873/200.00, Now #29; Best prior run: 7.047/199.94, Was #38

Delgado just misses, and Howard makes his best-ever run.

Left Lane: Fernando Cuadra Runs 6.842/201.40, Now #24; Best prior run: 6.864/201.55, Was #27
Right Lane: Dester Cambron Runs 6.988/198.23, Now #38; Best prior run: 7.021/197.28, Was #38

Both drivers improve, but it's not enough.

Career best for Peternel. Maldonado with a wiggle off the line, and then he had the chutes out early.

Left Lane: Ben Watson Runs 6.818/202.18, Now #18; Best prior run: 6.853/201.70, Was #26
Right Lane: Steve Schmidt Runs 6.786/203.00, Now #9; Best prior run: 6.883/201.19, Was #33

Gene Wilson is on the bump at 6.818. Watson improves but won't get in. Schmidt with the best run of his career.

Left Lane: Greg Stanfield Runs 6.824/202.82, Now #21; Best prior run: 6.844/202.27, Was #27
Right Lane: Barry Grant Runs 8.350/117.95, Now #31; Best prior run: 6.875/201.97, Was #31

Grant was all over his lane. Stanfield won't make the field.

Left Lane: Mark Whisnant Runs 6.794/202.94, Now #14; Best prior run: 6.841/202.42, Was #26
Right Lane: Mark Pawuk Runs 6.835/201.16, Now #26; Best prior run: 6.835/201.43, Was #25

Whisnant gets in. Pawuk matches his run from the first session and will not qualify.

Left Lane: Nick Fratt Runs 6.804/203.12, Now #16; Best prior run: 6.823/202.18, Was #21
Right Lane: Scott Geoffrion Runs 6.829/202.70, Now #25; Best prior run: 6.830/203.49, Was #25

The bump is Connolly at 6.806. Fratt resets his career best e.t. and gets in on the bump.

Left Lane: Taylor Lastor Runs 6.796/202.27, Now #15; Best prior run: 6.820/202.70, Was #21
Right Lane: George Marnell Runs 6.803/203.40, Now #17; Best prior run: 6.824/202.52, Was #23

Lastor gets in and Marnell misses by one thousandth. Career best mph for Marnell.

Left Lane: Dave Connolly Runs 8.518/114.11, Now #20; Best prior run: 6.806/203.77, Was #19
Right Lane: Gene Wilson Runs 6.782/203.74, Now #7; Best prior run: 6.818/203.22, Was #21

Great run for Wilson. Lastor is on the bump at 6.796. Connolly moves around and shuts off, and will not qualify.

Left Lane: Troy Coughlin Runs 6.775/203.71, Now #4; Best prior run: 6.802/203.06, Was #17
Right Lane: Warren Johnson Runs 6.760/204.88, Now #2; Best prior run: 6.793/204.51, Was #14

This was wacky. Coughlin had problems in the burnout box and had to do a short burnout. Then, he sat on the line for a long time, and after a 9.093 reaction time, gets in the show. Nice run for WJ, as well.

Left Lane: Jim Yates Runs 6.770/203.34, Now #4; Best prior run: 6.791/202.70, Was #15
Right Lane: Allen Johnson Runs 6.772/203.68, Now #5; Best prior run: 6.790/203.16, Was #14

The top 16 is set, as the remaining drivers are all in. Both of these teams improve. Whisnant is on the bump at 6.794.

Left Lane: Ron Krisher Runs 6.855/202.91, Now #15; Best prior run: 6.790/203.31, Was #15
Right Lane: Larry Morgan Runs 6.762/204.26, Now #3; Best prior run: 6.783/204.01, Was #12

Krisher moved around early and it hurt his e.t. Morgan picks up a bit.

Left Lane: Mike Edwards Runs 6.779/203.00, Now #9; Best prior run: 6.777/203.03, Was #9
Right Lane: Bruce Allen Runs 6.787/203.12, Now #11; Best prior run: 6.779/203.34, Was #11

No help for either driver.

Left Lane: Jeg Coughlin Runs 6.747/203.34, Now #1; Best prior run: 6.769/203.06, Was #4
Right Lane: Kurt Johnson Runs 6.791/204.60, Now #10; Best prior run: 6.778/203.95, Was #10

Jeg goes to the top of the heap. No help for KJ. Jeg was .980 at 60 feet.

Left Lane: Greg Anderson Runs 6.739/205.01, Now #1; Best prior run: 6.753/205.07, Was #2
Right Lane: Darrell Alderman Runs 6.779/203.09, Now #8; Best prior run: 6.777/203.34, Was #8

Last pair. Anderson looking to take back the top spot from Jeg. And he does it with a big top end charge. Alderman stays consistent, but does not improve.
