Pro Stock Round 1 Eliminations
By Jonathan Adams

JOLIET, Ill. - Results of round 1 eliminations in Pro Stock at the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series, Third annual CARQUEST Auto Parts NHRA Nationals:

 Car#-Driver(Opp'nt)-RT-----ET---Speed-----Car#-Driver(Opp'nt)-RT----ET---Speed
398 Darrell Alderman 7 Mike Edwards
E1 ****WINNER**** 0.029 8.683 109.10 -0.010 6.749 203.19
 Qualified: #8 6.777 203.34 #9 6.777 203.03
These two qualified with identical e.t.'s so this one should come down to reaction time. Yep. Edwards is too early, and Alderman shuts off after getting out of the groove.

 Car#-Driver(Opp'nt)-RT-----ET---Speed-----Car#-Driver(Opp'nt)-RT----ET---Speed
24 Troy Coughlin 6 Kurt Johnson
E1 0.021 6.826 202.67 ****WINNER**** 0.024 6.769 204.17
 Qualified: #7 6.775 203.71 #10 6.778 203.95
It's a classic Coughlin vs. Johnson match-up here. It's KJ thanks to his best run of the event.

 Car#-Driver(Opp'nt)-RT-----ET---Speed-----Car#-Driver(Opp'nt)-RT----ET---Speed
50 Bruce Allen 8 Allen Johnson
E1 ****WINNER**** 0.015 6.777 202.27 0.060 6.837 202.33
 Qualified: #11 6.779 203.34 #6 6.772 203.68
These two were in the water when Johnson decided to swap lanes. That strategy did not pay off, as Allen was quicker off the line and was quicker at every incremental, including a .972 short time.

 Car#-Driver(Opp'nt)-RT-----ET---Speed-----Car#-Driver(Opp'nt)-RT----ET---Speed
9 Gene Wilson 2 Jim Yates
E1 0.001 6.791 202.91 ****WINNER**** 0.020 6.769 202.67
 Qualified: #12 6.782 203.74 #5 6.770 203.34
Wilson was brilliant at the Tree, but Yates was right behind him and had enough power to drive around him.

Jim Yates' MOV: 0.0037 seconds (approximately 13 inches).

 Car#-Driver(Opp'nt)-RT-----ET---Speed-----Car#-Driver(Opp'nt)-RT----ET---Speed
357 Larry Morgan 2455 Jason Line
E1 ****WINNER**** 0.055 6.780 204.11 0.067 6.774 204.35
 Qualified: #4 6.762 204.26 #13 6.786 203.80
Holeshot! The veteran takes out the rookie with a slightly better light.

Larry Morgan's incremental margins: 60ft(0.017), 330 ft(0.013), 660ft(0.011), 1,000ft(0.008). MOV: 0.0065 seconds (approximately 23 inches).

30 Steve Schmidt 4 Warren Johnson
E1 0.070 6.819 202.73 ****WINNER**** 0.011 6.784 203.77
 Qualified: #14 6.786 203.00 #3 6.760 204.88
Great light for WJ, and despite a little wiggle early in the run makes his second best run of the race. He loses lane choice to Allen in round two.

 Car#-Driver(Opp'nt)-RT-----ET---Speed-----Car#-Driver(Opp'nt)-RT----ET---Speed
3 Greg Anderson 10 Mark Whisnant
E1 ****WINNER**** 0.011 6.722 204.82 -0.017 6.808 203.31
 Qualified: #1 6.739 205.01 #16 6.794 202.94
Easy win for Anderson as he lays down low e.t. of the event. He'll have lance choice over Alderman in the next round.

 Car#-Driver(Opp'nt)-RT-----ET---Speed-----Car#-Driver(Opp'nt)-RT----ET---Speed
1 Jeg Coughlin 5 Ron Krisher
E1 ****WINNER**** 0.017 6.723 203.40 0.104 6.762 203.46
 Qualified: #2 6.747 203.34 #15 6.790 203.31
Krisher was very late, but it doesn't matter as Jeg makes his best run of the weekend. He'll have lance choice over Kurt Johnson in round two.
