2:17 PM - At the start of the second round, the air temperature was 56 degrees at 47 percent
humidity and the barometric pressure was 29.98 and steady under partly cloudy skies.
Weis could not get his car started so Head had a single run into the next round. Head's run was
strong and was his quickest run this far into the event.

1 Larry Dixon 337 Paul Romine
E2 0.092 11.596 78.34 ****WINNER**** 0.051 5.264 217.56
Prior rounds:
E1 (L Novelli ) 0.115 12.004 75.00 (D Baca ) 0.069 4.524 313.66
Qualified: #3 4.550 322.11 #6 4.564 310.13
Romine has two wins and eight losses in the 10 times he and Dixon have run each other in
NHRA Top Fuel competition. He made the quickest run of his career in the first round to beat
David Baca. Romine took that record to three wins when Dixon almost drove out of his tires as
he launched, with the tires smoking and shaking. He shut it down by the time he reached the 330
foot marker. Romine smoked his tires too but a quick pedal gave him what he needed to get the
win and advance to a third-round face-off against Jim Head. Romine gave up lane choice in the
next round.

3 Tony Schumacher 7 Doug Herbert
E2 ****WINNER**** 0.065 4.441 332.34 0.078 4.686 256.41
Prior rounds:
E1 (D Kalitta ) 0.099 9.470 102.80 (D Russell ) 0.063 4.592 288.33
Qualified: #1 4.465 328.78 #9 4.593 300.20
This was a drag race! Schumacher had this one from start to finish and set a new national
ET record in the process. His 4.465 second run from the first qualifying session three weeks
ago was quick enough to back up this run. Herbert had a good run too but running against
Schumacher, he never got close. At the end of the run, Schumacher did not get his car stopped
in time and he went into the sand trap. Tony Schumacher's incremental margins: 60ft(0.039), 330
ft(0.083), 660ft(0.093), 1,000ft(0.122). MOV: 0.2581 seconds (approximately 97 feet).

Millican pedaled his way into this round in his odd first round win over Cory McClenethan.
He'll meeting Tony Schumacher in the semi-finals thanks to a strong run in the right lane while
Kalitta was smoking the tires in the left lane. Millican gave up lane choice to Schumacher in
the next round.
