First pair and a big matchup. Both drivers are in the countdown. the loser will be at a big disadvantage with a first round loss.

Coughlin makes a move to the right off the line but keeps it in the groove. Johnson makes a clean run but the worst of the weekend for him. Coughlin moves on.

This was a close one here. Gaines gets off the line first and starts to pull away. Line starts to make up ground after the 330-foot mark, but runs out of racetrack. V. Gaines' incremental margins: 60ft(0.022), 330 ft(0.024), 660ft(0.018), 1,000ft(0.010). MOV: 0.0036 seconds (approximately 13 inches).

Gaines will have lane choice over Naylor in round two.
