Top Alcohol Funny Car Qualifying Notes, Final Session

REYNOLDS, Ga. - Notes from final, round 2 qualifying in Top Alcohol Funny Car at the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series, Southeast Division, event at Silver Dollar Raceway listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:
Right Lane: Monty Todd No Time, Now #14; No Prior Run

Todd broke while backing up from his burnout.

Left Lane: Mike Bell Runs 6.112/216.97, Now #7; Best prior run: 7.369/128.31, Was #11
Right Lane: Bobby Martindale Runs 8.693/91.03, Now #12; Best prior run: 7.393/155.56, Was #12

Martindale pedaled it three times during the burnout... He was all over his lane on this pass, close to the wall and close to the centerline at one point or another. No apparent problems for Bell.

Left Lane: Keeter Ray Runs 6.966/143.55, Now #11; Best prior run: 6.995/143.35, Was #11
Right Lane: Mark Rogers Runs 6.059/232.75, Now #7; Best prior run: 6.750/142.60, Was #9

A career best pass for Rogers. Ray was bouncing around in the middle section of the track.

Left Lane: Nancy Matter No Time, Now #10; Best prior run: 6.890/224.81, Was #10
Right Lane: John Sullivan No Time, Now #9; Best prior run: 6.688/151.48, Was #9

Matter's engine was started, then it went silent just before she reached the water box. Sullivan was out of shape at about 400 feet. He continued to move all over his lane. His chutes were out early, then he crossed the centerline and he took out a finish line timing cone.

Left Lane: Mick Snyder Runs 5.819/243.63, Now #3; Best prior run: 5.948/242.28, Was #4
Right Lane: Bob Newberry Runs 5.713/252.28, Now #1; Best prior run: 5.981/248.71, Was #6

A good looking pass for both drivers as Newberry sets the track E.T. and speed records.

Left Lane: Wayne Morris Runs 11.801/81.08, Now #6; Best prior run: 5.938/238.51, Was #5
Right Lane: Mark Billington Runs 5.908/215.86, Now #5; Best prior run: 5.963/242.10, Was #6

Something was wrong with Morris' car early in the run, as he was off the throttle at about 150 feet.

Left Lane: Mickey Ferro Runs 5.667/253.42, Now #1; Best prior run: 5.846/247.79, Was #4

Ferro moves to the top of the ladder with track records in both E.T. and speed.
