Pro Stock Round 2 Eliminations
By Dan Bennett

CLERMONT, Ind. - Results of round 2 eliminations in Pro Stock at the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series, 53rd annual Mac Tools U.S. Nationals:

 Car#-Driver(Opp'nt)-RT-----ET---Speed-----Car#-Driver(Opp'nt)-RT----ET---Speed
103 Max Naylor 2 Greg Anderson
E2 0.060 6.732 205.69 ****WINNER**** 0.025 6.735 206.54
 Prior rounds:
E1 (S Schmidt ) 0.051 6.706 205.82 (J Coughlin ) 0.014 6.738 206.89
 Qualified: #1 6.655 206.39 #9 6.677 206.67
This is the round that always trips people up. It's about as hot as it's going to get and the setup MUST be backed off.

Weather conditions: air temperature 89 degrees, relative humidity 31 percent, barometer 29.19 inches, adjusted altitude 3,027 feet, track temperature 119 degrees.

Can Anderson pull another one out? Naylor has been deadly consistent in the left lane all weekend long.

Yes, he does. Again, a champ does what he has to do. He left on Naylor but needed every bit of it because he was much slower on the way to 330 as the car was spinning and into moderate shake.

 Car#-Driver(Opp'nt)-RT-----ET---Speed-----Car#-Driver(Opp'nt)-RT----ET---Speed
7 Jim Yates 107 Kenny Koretsky
E2 0.182 No Time ****WINNER**** 0.015 7.379 170.23

E1 (M Edwards ) 0.056 6.706 206.01 (L Morgan ) 0.060 6.763 205.76
 Qualified: #2 6.658 206.29 #10 6.678 206.29
Yates has been here and done that. He's got the lane he wants, Jenkins horsepower, and it's Indy.

Remember Koretsky almost was timed out last round as he took his time going in.

In a repeat of 1995, Yates' car breaks as soon as the clutch is engaged. It didn't even lurch hard.

 Car#-Driver(Opp'nt)-RT-----ET---Speed-----Car#-Driver(Opp'nt)-RT----ET---Speed
5 Kurt Johnson 6 Allen Johnson
E2 ****WINNER**** 0.051 6.748 205.26 0.022 6.814 205.63
 Prior rounds:
E1 (G Stanfield ) 0.031 6.698 205.63 (C Hankinson ) 0.039 6.702 206.67
 Qualified: #5 6.662 207.30 #4 6.661 206.57
Look for a good one here. These cars were only a thousandth of a second apart in qualifying.

Allen Johnson spins the tires hard and has a 1.065 60 foot. He's six hundredths behind at 330. That's the long way of saying that KJ ran away and left him. Anderson has lane choice over KJ.

 Car#-Driver(Opp'nt)-RT-----ET---Speed-----Car#-Driver(Opp'nt)-RT----ET---Speed
3 Dave Connolly 1568 Justin Humphreys
E2 ****WINNER**** 0.033 6.704 206.39 0.028 6.749 205.72
 Prior rounds:
E1 (J Line ) 0.027 6.648 206.64 (R Stevens Jr) 0.036 6.692 205.76
 Qualified: #3 6.659 206.32 #6 6.669 206.67
Humphreys actually leaves first, but again doesn't have the short times to run with Connolly.

The Torco team will have lane choice over Koretsky in the semis.
