Top Fuel Qualifying Notes, Final Session

CHANDLER, Ariz. - Notes from final, round 4 qualifying in Top Fuel at the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series, 23rd annual Checker Schuck's Kragen NHRA Nationals presented by Castrol listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:
Left Lane: Mike Strasburg Runs 4.719/309.42, Now #17; Best prior run: 8.716/96.51, Was #19

Weather conditions: air temperature 72 degrees, relative humidity 12 percent, barometer 29.03 inches, adjusted altitude 2,041 feet, track temperature 94 degrees.

Strasburg has a hole out as soon as he hit the throttle and still runs his best pass of the weekend, but will not get into the show.

Left Lane: Doug Kalitta Runs 4.547/327.90, Now #12; Best prior run: 4.995/201.97, Was #18
Right Lane: Cory McClenathan Runs 4.516/327.51, Now #8; Best prior run: 5.581/166.17, Was #19

Alan Bradshaw is on the bump spot at 4.608. Kalitta's qualifying streak is on the line here. Kalitta is straight down the groove and into the show so he has now qualified for 162 consecutive races. Cory Mac gets into the top half of the show with a great looking pass. They bump out Hartley and Bradshaw on this run. Clay Millican is on the bump spot at 4.603.

Right Lane: Alan Bradshaw Runs 7.180/108.75, Now #18; Best prior run: 4.608/299.26, Was #18

Bradshaw is up in smoke around the 330-foot mark. Millican with a great looking pass straight down the groove with his career best E.T. and he was hazing the tires on the top end. Clay Millican's incremental times: 60ft-0.839 sec., 330ft-2.138, 660ft-3.033/282.48mph, 1,000ft-3.794

Left Lane: Doug Herbert Runs 9.449/96.29, Now #16; Best prior run: 4.594/309.06, Was #16
Right Lane: Joe Hartley Runs 8.151/97.86, Now #17; Best prior run: 4.605/330.88, Was #17

Herbert is up in smoke right off the starting line. Hartley starts to drop cylinders and then loses traction and clicks it off. He will not get into the show.

Left Lane: Doug Foley Runs 7.282/103.51, Now #14; Best prior run: 4.560/326.16, Was #14
Right Lane: David Grubnic Runs 6.597/122.59, Now #15; Best prior run: 4.589/322.42, Was #15

Both of them strike the tires right at the 330-foot mark.

Left Lane: Bob Vandergriff Runs 4.862/227.46, Now #10; Best prior run: 4.523/329.58, Was #10
Right Lane: Hillary Will Runs 4.535/327.98, Now #11; Best prior run: 4.546/323.89, Was #12

Will with her best pass of the weekend and moves up the ladder one spot. Hillary Will's incremental times: 60ft-0.857 sec., 330ft-2.166, 660ft-3.076/275.28mph, 1,000ft-3.855 Vandergriff was on a good pass until about half track and then the engine went away with a big fireball. This is Vandergriff's second oil down after using his free credit, so this will cost him $1000.

Left Lane: J.R. Todd Runs 4.551/317.49, Now #6; Best prior run: 4.510/323.43, Was #6
Right Lane: Morgan Lucas Runs 4.585/323.74, Now #12; Best prior run: 4.539/326.32, Was #12

Lucas with four good clean passes during qualifying and he will start Sunday from the number 12 spot. Todd with a real nice pass here in the heat of the day.

Left Lane: Melanie Troxel Runs 4.535/326.32, Now #5; Best prior run: 4.495/331.12, Was #4
Right Lane: Brandon Bernstein Runs 4.494/330.31, Now #4; Best prior run: 4.512/328.30, Was #8

Bernstein with a great looking pass to move up to the number four spot. Brandon Bernstein's incremental times: 60ft-0.846 sec., 330ft-2.153, 660ft-3.062/278.69mph, 1,000ft-3.825 Melanie with a good looking pass with just a quick flash of flame on the top end.

Left Lane: Rod Fuller Runs 4.500/329.67, Now #2; Best prior run: 4.471/331.61, Was #2
Right Lane: Larry Dixon Runs 4.652/296.37, Now #8; Best prior run: 4.511/323.19, Was #8

Fuller with nice clean pass, straight down the groove. Dixon with a nice pass until around 1000 feet when it dropped a cylinder or two.

Left Lane: Tony Schumacher Runs 4.457/329.34, Now #1; Best prior run: 4.430/328.22, Was #1
Right Lane: Whit Bazemore Runs 9.083/76.21, Now #6; Best prior run: 4.507/327.19, Was #6

Bazemore up in smoke by 330 feet and clicked it off. Schumacher with a great looking pass, the second quickest pass of the weekend. Tony Schumacher's incremental times: 60ft-0.837 sec., 330ft-2.146, 660ft-3.038/283.01mph, 1,000ft-3.790
