Pro Stock Qualifying Notes, Final Session

CHANDLER, Ariz. - Notes from final, round 4 qualifying in Pro Stock at the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series, 23rd annual Checker Schuck's Kragen NHRA Nationals presented by Castrol listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:
Left Lane: Justin Humphreys Runs 16.615/48.60, Now #23; Best prior run: 6.787/205.88, Was #23
Right Lane: Gordie Rivera Runs 6.827/203.49, Now #24; Best prior run: 6.808/202.94, Was #24

Weather conditions: air temperature 72 degrees, relative humidity 12 percent, barometer 29.03 inches, adjusted altitude 2,041 feet, track temperature 94 degrees.

Humphreys launched and spun and headed toward the wall before he clicked it off. No help here for Rivera.


Left Lane: Dwayne Rice Runs 6.764/203.52, Now #22; Best prior run: 6.784/205.07, Was #22
Right Lane: Tony Rizzo Runs 6.730/204.20, Now #20; Best prior run: 6.719/206.04, Was #20

Rice with a good 60-foot time and his best pass of the weekend, but he will not get into the show.

Left Lane: Ben Watson Runs 17.895/44.95, Now #21; Best prior run: 6.744/205.66, Was #21
Right Lane: Ron Krisher Runs 6.713/206.70, Now #19; Best prior run: 6.715/206.35, Was #19

Watson with violent tire shake as soon as he let the clutch out. Krisher with his best pass of the weekend, but will not get into the show.

Left Lane: Larry Morgan Runs 6.701/205.63, Now #17; Best prior run: 6.708/206.32, Was #18
Right Lane: V. Gaines Runs 6.691/207.05, Now #15; Best prior run: 6.688/206.54, Was #15

Morgan with his best pass of the week and is just a little short of getting into the show. No help for Gaines, and he will stay number 15.

Left Lane: Allen Johnson Runs 13.066/64.35, Now #18; Best prior run: 6.705/207.18, Was #18
Right Lane: Jim Yates Runs 6.690/206.57, Now #11; Best prior run: 6.673/206.76, Was #11

Johnson with tire shake and then spins the tires and shuts it off. Johnson shuts it off and he will not make the show. Johnson's qualifying streak ends at 42 races, and that was third longest in the class.

Left Lane: Max Naylor Runs 6.726/206.07, Now #16; Best prior run: 6.690/206.13, Was #16
Right Lane: Mike Edwards Runs 6.730/207.34, Now #9; Best prior run: 6.670/206.83, Was #9

No help for either of these two.

Left Lane: Roger Brogdon Runs 6.697/206.86, Now #14; Best prior run: 6.684/207.02, Was #14
Right Lane: Dave Connolly Runs 10.203/87.23, Now #8; Best prior run: 6.660/207.78, Was #8

Connolly with tire shake and clicks it off. Brogdon with another really good pass and he will start his rookie season in Pro Stock racing on Sunday for second consecutive race.

Left Lane: Tom Martino Runs 11.201/80.01, Now #13; Best prior run: 6.680/206.83, Was #13
Right Lane: Kenny Koretsky Runs 6.666/207.66, Now #7; Best prior run: 6.659/207.59, Was #7

Martino with a lot tire shake and then got real close to the wall before he clicked it off.

Left Lane: Kurt Johnson Runs 6.658/207.75, Now #7; Best prior run: 6.677/207.27, Was #12
Right Lane: Greg Stanfield Runs 12.601/69.06, Now #6; Best prior run: 6.658/207.82, Was #6

Stanfield with a lot tire shake and he clicked it off. Johnson with a great looking pass to get into the top half of the field. Kurt Johnson's incremental times: 60ft-0.985 sec., 330ft-2.785, 660ft-4.280/164.95mph, 1,000ft-5.568

Left Lane: Jeg Coughlin Runs 6.667/207.27, Now #10; Best prior run: 6.672/207.50, Was #11
Right Lane: Warren Johnson Runs 6.702/207.94, Now #5; Best prior run: 6.652/208.14, Was #5

Coughlin with his best pass of the weekend. WJ with another nice pass, but doesn't improve.

Left Lane: Greg Anderson Runs 13.941/61.34, Now #4; Best prior run: 6.650/209.49, Was #4
Right Lane: Erica Enders Runs 6.709/206.89, Now #3; Best prior run: 6.648/207.02, Was #3

Anderson with violent tire shake and shuts it off.

Left Lane: Jason Line Runs 6.670/208.62, Now #1; Best prior run: 6.635/209.33, Was #1
Right Lane: Richie Stevens Runs 6.685/207.50, Now #2; Best prior run: 6.640/207.18, Was #2

Line with tire shake and makes a move toward the centerline, but stays with it for a nice pass. Stevens with another real nice pass.
