CHANDLER, Ariz. - Notes from round 1 qualifying in Top Fuel at the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series, 23rd annual Checker Schuck's Kragen NHRA Nationals presented by Castrol listing lane, driver name, elapsed time, top speed, and position in order following run:
Left Lane: Gene Davis No Time, Now #2
Right Lane: Doug Foley No Time, Now #1
Weather conditions: air temperature 64 degrees, relative humidity 21 percent, barometer 28.80 inches, adjusted altitude 1,774 feet, track temperature 93 degrees.
Davis rolled through the lights and then motored on down the track while Foley waits and it took
Davis too long to get off the track, so they shut Foley off and he will get another chance after
fueling the car back up.
Left Lane: Morgan Lucas Runs 4.764/254.14, Now #1
Right Lane: Clay Millican Runs 8.723/80.36, Now #2
Lance Larsen now helping out on the Lucas team. Millican lost traction early and clicked it off. Lucas had a hole out early and then it appeared that it lost a blower belt on the top end.
Left Lane: Alan Bradshaw Runs 9.883/76.95, Now #4
Right Lane: Doug Herbert Runs 7.246/150.90, Now #2
Both cars blister the Goodyears around 100 feet and Bradshaw lifts, Herbert lifted and then around 800 feet he got back on to the throttle.
Left Lane: Hillary Will Runs 10.139/81.13, Now #6
Right Lane: Mike Strasburg Runs 8.716/96.51, Now #3
Will is rattling the tires right off the starting line and shuts it off. Strasburg lost traction right off the starting line and clicked it off.
Left Lane: Cory McClenathan Runs 9.924/80.70, Now #7
Right Lane: Melanie Troxel Runs 4.710/268.49, Now #1
McClenathan with tire shake and smoke right off the starting line. Troxel had a hole out right at the hit and then the engine let go on the top end with a quick flash of flame.
Left Lane: Larry Dixon Runs 4.583/314.53, Now #1
Right Lane: Tony Schumacher Runs 6.150/137.41, Now #4
Schumacher was smoking the Goodyears by 300 feet and clicked it off. Dixon dropped a cylinder right off the starting line, but was able to make it stick all the way through the 1320.
Left Lane: Joe Hartley Runs 5.075/207.69, Now #4
Right Lane: Bob Vandergriff Runs 8.622/82.21, Now #7
Vandergriff lost traction early and clicked it off. Hartley made it to about half track before he lost traction and clicked it off.
Right Lane: Doug Foley Runs 4.560/326.16, Now #1
Foley is back to try it again and he has the best looking pass of the session to go to the number one spot. Doug Foley's incremental times: 60ft-0.856 sec., 330ft-2.160, 660ft-3.092/269.62mph, 1,000ft-3.878
Left Lane: Whit Bazemore Runs 10.217/73.51, Now #14
Right Lane: Doug Kalitta Runs 11.330/78.94, Now #15
Both cars are up in smoke as soon as they hit the throttle.
Left Lane: David Grubnic Runs 11.173/78.29, Now #16
Right Lane: Rod Fuller Runs 4.471/331.61, Now #1
Grubnic double step it on the starting line and then lost traction and shut it off. Fuller launched hard and keep it hitting on all eight all the way down the track with a career best E.T. and speed. Rod Fuller's incremental times: 60ft-0.847 sec., 330ft-2.141, 660ft-3.044/280.08mph, 1,000ft-3.805
Left Lane: Brandon Bernstein Runs 4.512/328.30, Now #2
Right Lane: J.R. Todd Runs 8.768/101.48, Now #13
