47th annual CARQUEST Auto Parts NHRA Winternationals Special Awards

POMONA, Calif. -- Special awards from the 47th annual CARQUEST Auto Parts NHRA Winternationals.

NHRA Top Fuel Shootout award ($4,000 to the No. 1 qualifier in Top Fuel) - Tony Schumacher, Long Grove, Ill., U.S. Army dragster, 4.472 seconds, 331.36 mph.

Skoal Showdown award ($4,000 to the No. 1 qualifier in Funny Car) - Gary Scelzi, Fresno, Calif., Mopar/Oakley Dodge Charger, 4.692 seconds, 333.49 mph.

NHRA King Demon Crown award ($3,000 to the No. 1 qualifier in Pro Stock) - Greg Anderson, Charlotte, N.C., Summit Racing Pontiac GTO, 6.634 seconds, 209.04 mph.

Motel 6 "Who Got the Light" award ($1,000 to the individual Top Fuel, Funny Car, or Pro Stock driver who earns an elimination round win by the narrowest margin.) - Greg Stanfield defeated Kurt Johnson by a .0025-second margin of victory in the first round of Pro Stock eliminations.

Strange Engineering "Perfectly Strange" performance award ($250 bonus to the first racer in Super Stock, Stock, Super Comp, Super Gas, and Super Street who wins an elimination round by running dead-on their dial-in or index) - Dave Raybourn in Super Stock; Moe Trujillo in Super Comp.

Brut "Essence of Racing" award ($1,000 to the Sportsman-level participant that best exemplifies the Brut spirit of racing) Top Alcohol Funny Car racers Bret & Don Williamson of Campbell, Calif.

Hedman Hedders Best Engineered Vehicle ($1,000 to the best engineered vehicle) - Roubicek Racing/Team Smooth Super Comp entry. Driver: Joe Roubicek, Westlake Village, Calif.

NHRA Best Appearing Crew - B&J Transmissions Top Alcohol Dragster entry. Driver: Jeffrey Isbell, Erda, Utah.

NHRA Best Appearing Car - Maui Style Pontiac Grand Am Super Comp entry. Driver: Bob Harris Jr., Trabuco, Calif.

Full Throttle Pit Crew Championship ($3,000 each to Top Fuel and Funny Car's top crew, $1,500 to Pro Stock's top crew, and $750 to Pro Stock Motorcycle's top crew):
Top Fuel: Tony Schumacher/Alan Johnson U.S. Army dragster crew.
Funny Car: Gary Scelzi/Mike Neff Mopar/Oakley Dodge Charger R/T crew.
Pro Stock: Dave Connolly/Tommy Utt Torco/Slammers Chevrolet Cobalt crew.
