EDMONTON, Alb. - Notes from round 2 qualifying in Knoll Gas - Torco Pro Modified at the 2006 eMax Drag Racing Series, CARS RV & Marine & Motorsports Rocky Mountain Nationals presented by TORCO Racing Fuels listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:
Left Lane: Vern Mills Runs 6.463/214.31, Now #15; No Prior Run
Right Lane: Alan Pittman Runs 8.308/108.39, Now #20; No Prior Run

8:29 p.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 78 degrees, relative humidity 30 percent, barometer 28.10 inches,adjusted altitude 3,540 feet, track temperature 93 degrees.

As the second session opens, Ross Hogenson is on the bump spot at 6.568.

Pittman slowed before half track, the reason not evident (but we are now looking into the Sun, can't see much detail). Mills got a full pass, bumped into the field - barely. Now Pat Stoken is on the bump spot at 6.535.

Left Lane: Quain Stott Runs 6.211/232.15, Now #4; Best prior run: 15.583/55.52, Was #24
Right Lane: Trevor Lowe Runs 6.323/223.36, Now #12; Best prior run: 12.403/104.17, Was #23

Two nice runs by a pair of drivers who had major problems in the first session. That bumnps Stoken and Mills. Now Ed Hoover is on the bump spot at 6.462.

Left Lane: Shannon Jenkins Runs 6.206/222.80, Now #4; Best prior run: 10.586/78.81, Was #24
Right Lane: Steve Vick Runs 6.902/150.01, Now #22; Best prior run: 9.647/96.69, Was #23

Two more who had big problems in the first session. Vick once again had problems, this time before half track, but Jenkins made a pretty run, smooth and straight. Now Joe Delehay is on the bump spot at 6.389.

Left Lane: Kenny Lang Runs 6.206/228.58, Now #5; Best prior run: 6.975/201.82, Was #23
Right Lane: Ed Hoover Runs 6.154/229.27, Now #1; Best prior run: 6.462/218.72, Was #17

ang shook early in the first session, Hoover was on a good pass in that first session, then got sideways at half track.

No shake, no sideways, side-by-side good runs to bump Delehay and Steve Bareman. That puts Dennis Radford on the bump spot at 6.328.

Left Lane: Billy Harper Runs 21.272/33.59, Now #22; Best prior run: 6.570/180.04, Was #22
Right Lane: Joe Delehay Runs 9.148/97.83, Now #18; Best prior run: 6.389/225.63, Was #18

This time of year the Sun doesn't go down much, it just gets further North in the sky, so now it's behind a post and I can see again.

Had a good view of Harper shaking hard and fishtailing in the left lane, then heard delehay lost something in the driveline, the RPMs way up, then down. Oh-for-two this time, the bump did not change.

Left Lane: Ross Hogenson Runs 6.389/216.76, Now #19; Best prior run: 6.568/216.45, Was #21
Right Lane: Steve Bareman Runs 6.233/232.67, Now #9; Best prior run: 6.335/229.90, Was #17

bareman did a good job of taming a wayward race car early in the run without scrubbing off a lot of time. Hogenson improved a couple hundredths, stayed on the outside.

Left Lane: Pat Stoken Runs 6.249/211.93, Now #11; Best prior run: 6.535/219.26, Was #21
Right Lane: Harold Martin Runs 6.198/226.24, Now #4; Best prior run: 6.302/222.00, Was #14

Stoken's car started trailing light smoke on the top end, but it got the job done. Martin "hit a homer" here, the car smoothly down the groove. Now Burton Auxier is on the bump spot at 6.306.

Left Lane: Dennis Radford Runs 6.255/223.25, Now #12; Best prior run: 6.328/220.76, Was #18
Right Lane: Mike Janis No Time, Now #14; Best prior run: 6.266/219.22, Was #13

Janis' car blew the burst panel as soon as he hit the throttle - it sounded like a gun going off. The car rolled a few feet and stopped. Radford made his second good run of the day to get back into the field. Now points-leader Glen Kerunsky is on the bump spot at 6.297.

Left Lane: Burton Auxier Runs 6.242/217.74, Now #12; Best prior run: 6.306/222.07, Was #17
Right Lane: Carl Spiering Runs 6.168/231.12, Now #2; Best prior run: 6.257/230.17, Was #13

Two nice runs, Spiering's run bringing the Canadian fans their feet. Auxier got back in, bumping Kerunsky. That put Mike Castellana on the bump spot at 6.281.

Left Lane: Glen Kerunsky Runs 6.238/228.00, Now #12; Best prior run: 6.297/226.70, Was #17
Right Lane: Scott Cannon Runs 6.144/233.28, Now #1; Best prior run: 6.226/230.17, Was #10

Kerunsky got back in, Cannon went to #1 with a track record elapsed time and Mike Janis is on the bump spot at 6.266. That bumped Castellana.

Left Lane: Mike Castellana Runs 6.321/193.93, Now #17; Best prior run: 6.281/216.45, Was #17
Right Lane: Tommy D'Aprile Runs 6.175/231.40, Now #4; Best prior run: 6.206/231.16, Was #7

Castellana's engine started trailing light blue "death smoke" on the top end and he came up short, failing to get back into the field and ending the chain-reaction bumping process for this round. D/Aprile made a nice run to move into the top four.

Left Lane: Jim Halsey Runs 6.145/227.88, Now #3; Best prior run: 6.191/227.27, Was #6
Right Lane: Rick Distefano Runs 6.134/228.42, Now #1; Best prior run: 6.188/231.28, Was #5

"It's a new track record..." Ricky D brought his Canadian fan club to its feet with a stunning run. Halsey made a very good run, too, bringing this session to a great close.
