Car#-Driver(Opp'nt)-RT-----ET---Speed-----Car#-Driver(Opp'nt)-RT----ET---Speed
Bye 302 Dale Creasy Jr.
E1 ****WINNER**** 0.130 6.267 146.67
Qualified: #1 4.870 306.01
12:20 p.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 72 degrees, relative humidity 57 percent, barometer 29.53 inches, adjusted
altitude 1,579 feet, track temperature 105 degrees.Since IHRA rules require the car to reach the finish line to count the run, we ended up with a short field and "Peanut" gets a bye run to the semifinals. He was lucky to be on a solo pass, the car starting to
spin the tires at half track, then making a hard right turn. Creasy handled it well, shutting down and getting the car tamed down
without crossing the centerline. Car#-Driver(Opp'nt)-RT-----ET---Speed-----Car#-Driver(Opp'nt)-RT----ET---Speed 517 Gary Cooper 206 Bob Gilbertson E1 0.119 9.232 80.50 ****WINNER**** 0.104 5.466 264.47 Qualified: #4 5.552 210.13 #7 7.658 122.74Both cars had traction problems early, Cooper heading over toward the wall. Gilbertson kept it headed straight, pedaled, then "black-tracked" the rest of the way to the line. It wasn't pretty, but there are no style points in drag racing. Car#-Driver(Opp'nt)-RT-----ET---Speed-----Car#-Driver(Opp'nt)-RT----ET---Speed 116 Paul Lee 1429 Vincent Arcadi E1 ****WINNER**** 0.122 6.015 160.77 0.114 6.993 127.49 Qualified: #2 4.955 300.30 #5 6.063 154.03Both cars looked good for about 300 feet, then both started spinning the tires, then Arcadi's car popped the blower, the hood hatch sailing high in the air. Lee pedaled and finished the run under power, but lost lane choice to Gilbertson in the semifinals. Car#-Driver(Opp'nt)-RT-----ET---Speed-----Car#-Driver(Opp'nt)-RT----ET---Speed 34 Jack Wyatt 121 Terry Haddock E1 0.128 5.858 159.09 ****WINNER**** 0.133 5.221 262.62 Qualified: #6 6.397 175.81 #3 5.482 201.47Wyatt towed the chute half-way down the track on his only qualifying attempt, so we had no clue what his car could do. Haddock took two shots, had problems on both. Both cars looked good to around half track, then Wyatt started smoking the tires and he]ad
the chutes out early. Haddock ran well on the top end after pedaling to me the tire spin down. He will have lane choice against
Creasy in the semifinals.
